update. BTW, my old engine will soon be for sale. It has Comp R lifters, 224 cam, and stage 2 TEA 5.7 LS1 heads. I'm going to clean the heads first.

The motor coming out is a stock cube, stock internal engine. It just has the high dollar top end with Comp 921 dual springs. I am going to sell it as a complete shortblock with Comp R lifters, Complete TEA stage 2 heads, and LS1 valley cover. I would advise the purchaser to convert this to an LS6 PCV setup, re-ring the pistons (because the engine is out, has 74K miles and it's easily done at this moment), and do some ARP main studs and rod bolts if they would like. This engine is extremely powerful. I have gone 11's in 90+ degrees with this setup with inadequate tuning. The engine has approximately 74K miles on it. I am not pulling it because of mechanical problems, a totaled car or upcoming engine failure - I am changing it because I wanted more power, and I did about all I could with the stock displacement, so I bought this stroker.

The motor going in is a brand spanking new SDPC 408 iron block with Callies Crank, Callies Compstar rods, Diamond pistons, and all that ARP stuff. It's topped with TEA stage 3 6.0L heads. The engine is running a CR of 11.2:1, and the cam is a 248/254 615/613 113. I just wanted to make some serious power NA.

You are all doing it wrong. All you do is walk out back and do it like this.

Doesn't every car guy have one is his back yard.

Gear...I have a shop that is almost identical that me and a friend of mine do our work at. Funny thing is, it's at my grandparents place so we just have to go there to do it. Nice shop/lift, maybe next time you should try to do it like the other ppl so you won't be so "left out"...lol j/k

Yea has only been up for 6 months but I don't know how I ever lived without it. The best part is it was free other than the install. I answered an ad in the paper to a shop closing down selling off equipment. I got a small loan and bought it all and kept the lift , engine hoist, and transmission jack. I sold everything else and basicly broke even on what I had invested. Worked out real sweet.

Sounds like you got a damn good deal. Do you do any other cars other than yours, friends and family?

AC don't have a problem pulling the motor, not as much as we have anyway.

MiaSS, it can be done but it took me and a friend I think 6-7 hours. It is alot easier out the bottom IMO. Some ppl swear by it both ways I guess, bottom takes less time though.

The whole frontend, k-member and all. You can even do it with the tires on I think. Estimated time....2-4 hours first try. I'd say less if you have a lift from 2-3 hours and 3-4 w/o one although I have never done it without, just read that. I've done it 3 times now, all 3 times it went well with 2 people, going to do it again here real soon. I am going s/c asap.

Leave the shock tower bolts connected, thats what I do, and disconnect everything, it will come out trans and all. When you get ready to put it back in, connect the shock towers first and reverse. The book "How To Build An LS1" has a step-by-step instructon. I don't know if anyone has scanned it but maybe they can post up pics and steps if so.

Man I know everyone is hungry for the step by step procedure on dropping out an engine from the bottom or pulling it from the top. I just wish someone could find it in their kind heart to make such a write up. I dream of the day I can go on install U or ls1 how to, see the procedure and print it out. Its like engine swaps are just as common as a cam swap, especially now that many people are taking the engine out to do the cam swap!!! A write up is definitely needed, maybe ls1tech.com can work something out with someone I hope. Until then my engine will be staying in the car haha, until I decide i want bigger badder motor. Thanks All Great Pics!! GOOD LUCK
