i would have done it for a damn beer. wait, i DID! lol 70 dollars is expensive but thats the price you pay for their knowledge. if you took the free advice of others you might be buying a piston ring the size of a detriot diesel! just remember about that beer!

this is common. the piece of the valve spring that broke of will not crush the spring and make the valve float uncontrolably (which makes it run like crap). the oil gets to the valvesprings somehow. it easily gets to the bottom of the pan.

good thing you caught it early. loosing a valvespring is an easy way to destroy a motor at high rpm.

and ball bearings are only used in airplane equipment. (think the move FLETCH)

To be honest, the only thing I've ever taken off of the engine is the alternator and that was friggin easy. If they need to be changed he'll already have the car and he can do it.

How do the bearings work in our engines if they aren't *****?

I am going of the color of it..I figured it was close to the pan and it had dark brown on it. I would still have the whole motor looked at not just the valve covers taken off. Or take it back to the person who did it

Well, I think ARE did alot for me with the ring issues I had. I wouldn't expect them to tear it down again for something that is an obvious problem with the manufacturer, or just something happens from time to time with high power engines. But maybe they would

The shop I was at today showed me how the retainers and the springs with the dampers go in, he actually did an install of one to show me. The dampers that have been used for the past few years simply don't fit so the spring doesn't sit properly onto the retainer. He showed me a proper retainer that sits perfectly.

I'm sure ARE used the proper ones and I think I just got a broken damper, thats all.

Pay to play.

Think of two perfectly flat pieces of metal with a thin film of oil inbetween. They would float around pretty well, no? Well thats the way the bearings work except that theyre round. Its just two metal surfaces with oil in between.
