Default Locking the flywheel for crank bolt?

Has anyone come up with any creative ways to lock up the flywheel to torque the balancer/crank bolt down.I know I can buy a tool for this but I would like to alleviate the cost. Thanks

It's an auto from the sound of things. Stick a screwdriver in it.

remove starter and like said above, shove the biggest screwdriver thatll fit in one of the holes in the flexplate. make sure the screw driver has a pretty solid handle as the edge of the block will want to cut it

first time i did this on an auto i torqued it til the screwdriver broke, hehe whoops

all other times i used a better quality screwdriver and torqued it to factory specs. 240#'s with the old bolt, remove old bolt install new bolt, torque to 37#'s, and turn an additional 140 degrees

I do not know about the GTO, I do know a little about 5.7 Camero

ps:: I install a new seal any time I remove a pulley($10.00 and 10 minutes now is better than haveing a leak and haveing to remve pulley again

may make a tool to hold flywheel REmove the small 2 in round plug on bottom of bellhouseing insert
hope the drawing of tool is understandable
use a 1/8 x 2 flat bar about 12 in long insert into flywheel threw the round hole in botton of bellhouseing ,the notch in side will hold tool in place
PS: THE DRAWING DOES NOT SHOW UP CORRECT ,it should be about 2 in wide all the way down

For me, the Kent Moore tool was one of the best $65 investments I made. It securely locks the flywheel without any worries of things slipping and causing damage.
