ARP makes a replacement head bolt for the LS1, along with headstuds.

I have also been told by my mechanic that arp head bolts are reusable and the GM bolts are not.

What is the price like on the ARP bolts compared to the studs? Is there any advantage to the studs over the bolts? I can't stand TTY fasteners and when I do heads I want something re-usable.

I vote the studs. I just did my head/cam swap this past week and the studs are really nice. These are the three reasons I like them:

1) They are exspensive up front <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> , but the ability to remove the heads over and over again and never change bolts pays for them self in the end. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

2) They are much stronger than bolts.

3) Its difficult to break studs off in a block or strip the block out.

4) The studs act as alighnments. You just slip the head down over the studs and then just put the nuts on.

Studs are also easier on the threads in the block especially if you remove the heads more than once.
