Choice between Heads, MTI 2E's or TEA 5.3L Stage 1.5
Hey guys, I am going to be ordering some heads soon. I am wondering what my benefit will be with the MTI 2E's 5.7L heads vs TEA's 5.3L Stage 1.5. I know I can get the added compression just a bit which would be good for nitrous and my cam is a nice split duration for spray as well. If the $ wasn't the issue between the 2 companies which head porter would you use?
My motor is coming out for a complete rebuild forged. Nitrous will probably be used (dry shot) for alittle more umph but still need to remain with the ET cage rule of 11.50 because I won't cage this car.
I have a baby cam Comp 212/218 Xtreme lift (.554) I believe, not sure on the LSA that's turned some nice times with my stock heads and has trapped 116-117 in good air 45-55 degrees.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to be able to run 11.7's this season on my skinnies and MT drags and run 11.4's with some juice.
Thanks!
Claire

TEA because they are notorious for added exhaust port volume which is a benefit on nitrous .
That is replying to your question.
However if you have the $$, AFR 205 is the one to go with.

The heads (milled to achieve 11.0 CR) and a slightly bigger cam like a TR 220/220 112 or 224/224 114 will get you there and retain the drivability of your current cam.

I am happy if the car ET's 11.7's on motor and it's not on a slick, and if MPH is in the 118-119 range I will be more than happy, alittle juice on top of that even better.

I vote for MTI also. There heads are verry nice and customer service was outstanding. My first set of heads showed up looking like ace ventura delivered the box, the heads were a mess. Dave sent me a new set 1 week later no questions asked. I'll have some #'s in about a month when I finish the blower. Good luck.

Thanks guys, I will give ya alittle scenario of this little cam. The car went 11.91 and 11.92 last winter with the stock wheels and Nitto drag radials. My Man was driving it though, so it shows this tiny cam has yielded some sweet power. The heads should pick it up a bit more, now that I have 2 sets of track wheels and one set with MT drag radials a 1.6 short will do what I am looking to do.
I still have alot of things to get down to the cam bearings, ARP bolts, etc. etc. LS6 oil pump I already have the rods, Olivers and JE pistons. I may get antsy and decide on another cam..........who know's easier to do the whole motor at once.
But I do love a loping LS1 and I do like mine as it is very stealth like. It's an eye opener when you get on it.
What I'd really like to know is the benefit of going with a 5.3L head vs the 5.7's........clearance shouldn't be an issue with lift seeing the cam is .554 and the pistons are dished.

Thanks! I am getting all excited over here.

We'll see I will see how this current cam does with heads, if not I can always change it later on.

i went 11.8@118.5 w/ TEA 1.5s, a very mild cheatr cam, 1.7x 60' and this is through stock exhaust system (its a c5 though) I dont see you having any problem hitting 11.5s and 118+ w/ a 5.3L TEA heads and that cam..

It could change though into Dec when the air is alot drier here and the dew point goes way down into the 40% area compared to the 70% we have now with more humidity.
So........leaves me racing at Test and tune nights. If I can go out and even get the MT drags into the low 1.7's persay 1.72-1.73-1.70 then I know I will get them into the 1.6's at a track we've rented in Dec and that place hooks hard........cut a 1.74 there on 17" Nitto's with my 10 bolt On a good night at the home track 1.78's consistent out of my car is good on my 15" Nitto's on my 15x8 Welds. (Yes, she's<--me in deep love to race and I now have 3 sets of wheels for my car, 2 for the track and 1 for the street-whoot)
Thanks for the well wishes, I really think I've got some nice 1.6's coming out of the car and how I launch it with the MT's. My B/F thinks I should go ET street he doesn't think the MT drag radials are that good with M6's........but the Auto guys and powerglides are cutting 1.3's with them.
We will see, but thanks for the info

the M/T drag radial is an ET street. Or are you referring to the new drag radial they have? I run an 18" BFG drag radial and cut 1.7x 60's lauching at 2500 ish w/ a c5 that is 2" off the ground (NO weight transfer). So i dont see you havinga problem getting a good hooking M/T DR to hook and cut 1.60s if you put forth a little effort

I am talking about the MT DOT drag radial the new ones not the ET street.
I do know that on a well hooking track on the Nitto's I need to go out around 4K to get a decent 60' at the other track or a bog. At my home track I can go out around 38-3900 and I hook and bog over 4K I blow my tires off but with all that noise I still cut a 2.0
So I would think that a launch on the MT's around 5-5500 will do what I want and where I'd like to be. That's why trying them out on my home track first will tell me what they are most likely to yield at the other track before I go so I know if I have to add the ET street..........damn that will be a 3rd set of track tires since last week just bought some new 17" last week........still need to buy new 15" Nittos for my Welds for winter time sheeesh.
Dave, I will keep ya posted on the times, ET to the 60' after Dec 17th that's the date of the rental. Nice cool air into sundown and an excellent track...........heck ya, I am ready! Still have alot to do the motor is still gotta come out for it's rebuild.
