Default Are my lifters ok to use? ....pics...

I just pulled all my lifters out and here's how they look.

Is this normal for 60,000 miles? Does this have anything to do with aftermarket springs (Manley 1423s)? They feel smooth....

Few pics....

If you feel you need to replace them, I have a set of new Crane replacements I'm looking to move.

Those lifters look pretty rough, I would replace them if they were mine.

I'm wondering why they look like this...

I had a TR224-114 with the Manley springs and the limiter set at 6500...

??

How do the rollers feel when you rotate them? Is there any pitting on the roller surface? The wear doesn't appear to be abnormal from the pic, but it would be easier to tell if you had a close up of the roller on an individual lifter. If your concerned about it and can afford to buy a new set of R lifters go ahead. It certainly isn't worth it to try and get by if it costs you another tear down and it only takes one bad apple to spoil the hole top end.

Comp "R" lifters on such a small cam is not ideal, not to mention that they require adjustable rockers. Comp 850-16 is what I recommend (and use myself).

The rollers feel fine...but I'll probably replace them since I'm here.

Could this be from valve float? the car did not seem to be floating the valves....I dont know why they would look like this. The cam has the usual wear on it, nothing out of the ordinary...

A set of lifters isn't all that expensive considering the time and effort required to do an additional tear down if a lifter happens to fail after you turn the key. Only you can be the judge of that tradeoff. I probably shoudn't havn't suggested R lifters to you, but I like them because the preload adjustment is straightforward on the Rs unlike the OEMs. And yes I do have adjustable fully rollerized rockers (Comp Pro Mags at 1.85). You have to buy a set of hardened pushrods which cost an additional $150 to use these rockers because they require guide plates. There not shaft mounts, but I like them enough that I bought 2 sets for different LS1 so far.

if anything, replace with some new stockers.......the effort of getting back into the engine is much more than the cost of new lifters (to me).....not to mention if one comes apart and damages something else......
