Default Gold .650s vs Comp 918s....

How do these compare? One is a straight spring, the other is conical...which is better?

I'm not worried about breaking a single spring, what I want to know is which one is more stable at higher rpms?

Weight is an issue, and I cant imagine the Golds with a Ti retaier are lighter than the 918s with a stock retainer.

Input??

Depends on the cam.
Smaller cam, go with the 918's.

When it comes to weight....they Patriot's are MAYBE a pound heavier total kit.
I have both a set of 918's and a set of the PP duals in Ziplock bags. Very close in weight.

Agreed. I wish I could weigh them more exactly. No scale here.

So that is closer to what the masses say about the 918s.

Wow...this is some good info!

Yes, valvetrain mass is impostant down to the gram. I like the fact that the Golds are duals...but I'm not betting the Comps would break with my cam (.588").

The 918's will handle that cam no problem I think these springs will handle a LOT more cam then peeps give them credit for, My limiter is set at 6800 with a FMS 11 on a 112 and I spray a 100 shot with no problem, the guys that designed the Gen III were on to something

_______________
Brian,
Can the #26120 Single Beehive spring (155lb.@ 1.88" and 377lb.@ 1.28" be adapted to work w/ lobes beyond the 918's limits by machining spring pockets, ect.?

My Comp 918's floated my valves after 12k miles with stock retainers. They have been replaced with Patriot Gold duals and Ti retainers. Cam is a TR 224/224 114.

All you had to do is shim them

I recently switched from 'gold' duals to 918's and I think the valvetrain noise is less now.

I'd rather not beat around the bush. They got some good time in. I am much happier with my Golds now. The power doesnt fall off at 5500 and the valvetrain noise has not increased as some said it would.

Look at you sig, what you forget to mention is that you run boost (PROCHARGER). No wonder you needed stiffer springs.
