Default Cam suggestions please

Ok i have a pretty much all bolt on car.... not a daily driver. I want a cam thats goin to put down so power. I might eventully go boost but i figure i will just change to another cam then if need be. Hopefully in the near future i will do heads so i want it to match well(Heads are another story ) I was looking at the Tr 224, Tsp magic stick, T-rex. I have read alot and searched alot. These cams are so hard to understand! But anyway i want the cam to make power mid range and do not want to have to red line way up top (6700rpm) What you guys think would be my best bet and what kind of power i would get out of it? Mods are bellow and i dynoed 335 rwhp 356rwt. Thanks alot for all the help O yea and it has to work good with spray!!!

Those 3 cams aren't in the same class at all.

TR224 for nice street manners and a little lump, nice exhaust tone

MS3 for more power, very noticable idle...probably adds 15hp over the 224

Trex for all out race...

The bigger the cam is, the higher they like to spin. I'd go for something in the 224-228 range on 112 lsa.

FYI, the time in my sig is with a TR224, headers, nitto drs, and no tune...

These are three TOTALLY different cams. I run the MS3 in my daily driver and it works well for me. The average person ( not sure on the average tech member though ) would likely want to go just a tad smaller to avoid the occassional stumbles, etc, that go along with a large cam.

Read the cam guide sticky posted by jrp. SEARCH. Then search some more.

MS3 or G5X3 come to mind for big, but not too big to very easily drive on the street.

Before you add all that power you should invest in a good rear end (9") and some suspension mods if you EVER plan to visit the track.

When i search i see teh hp number that each are puttin down and i would liek to get as much as possibel without makin it a hassel, changin valve springs every 10000 miles, but i also would like an aggressive sound too

You don't want the T-rex, IMO.

Do you plan to run at the track? If so then as I stated earlier you need to invest in the drivetrain and suspension if you want to run decent ET's for your mods. I'd recommend middle of the road. However, whether you want middle of the road or all out is something that YOU have to decide.

If you don't have any idea what you want, you don't want the T-rex. He also said he didn't want a hastle, which sealed the deal for me to vote "no" on the T-rex.

Get a nice H/C from TSP
PRC 2.5, 5.3L heads and 231/231, 112 TSP cam
Nice lope, good power and really good on spray.
You could get the whole deal with tune in the neigbourhood of $2000.

You really have to match your combo to the T-rex due to it's size. Large stall/gears. And even after a good dyno tune it still won't be "turn key and drive" iln terms of manners all the time, there will be at least some form of hastle. What matters at that point is whether or not you personally are bothered by a cam that misbehaves from time to time.

Not to mention the rattle your teeth lope it has. Some people like it, but if you don't stay away. It's a nice cam, makes good power, but it comes on a lot higher than most people are looking for. I have a 230/224 from Thunder in a Z06 and it is on the borderline of street manners for me. I love the cam, but wouldn't go larger for a daily driver. I get a bit of a stumble with the air on and a cold engine. It sorts itself out once it warms up, but you may not like that. It will only be worse with a T-Rex. Not trying to talk you out of the cam, but trying to let you make an informed decision. If you are serious about it call up Thunder and tell them what you want and they can recommend a really nice cam to match your desires. Remember too that it's all a trade off. You will gain something and lose something when you increase the cam, make sure that what you lose is something you can live with and you will be fine with whatever size you choose.

4.56 gears in an A4? I'd say the stall isn't nearly big enough, but those are some serious gears, so..........

My cam (MS3) never stalls, it just stumbles in certain situations. I have learned to greatly minimize it very easily, but it still stumbles from time to time. The T-rex would ony be worse, but no properly tuned cam should actually die.

You'd also need to upgrade your lifters with a T-Rex and you'd need to raise your redline to get full power out of it, thus requiring new rod bolts. Sounds like you want something around a 230/230. A lot of people get a cam and then wish they had ordered a larger one after they drive it.

Default t rex cam

i ahve the t-rex cam in an slp 402 ls2 stroker with afr heads ported by TEA to 330 cc of flow.the cam is great in my car,it takes about 10 seconds for the spitting and sputering to stop when you start it ,,but it is really easily driven once you get used to it with a good clutch.i have the mcleod street twin and it really calms the cam down.my nephew drove the car and couldn't beleive the drivability.but u do have to stay in 5th if u don't drive over 55,but thats not a big deal, and i'm sure i'm pushing over 500 at the wheels with a strange 4'1o rear.the car sounds awsome with just cutouts still breaking in until iget to 1000mile marker then i'm hammering down,,so in short the t-rex cam is awsome and can be a daily driver ,,most people who criticize it have not driven behind it

But could you daily drive it in a 346? That is the question. There is a big difference in drivability with the same cam in engines that are 56 cubic inches apart.

Yes you can drive it, but Daily drive friendly, Noooooo
I'm sure someone will jump and say, " I drive it everyday" but it is NOT a daily driver friendly cam.
FM13, 14, G5x3, X4 are much better.
