I was just curious to know if you or anyone you know has blown their built motor? What did it take? How much nitrous, boost, etc...

50+ passes at the track on 150>200 shot dry per year for 4 years
Countless abuse on street,
45K miles
rod bolt failure, rod bearing failure #7 (happened under normal driving, no major damage to motor, still rebuildable)
2001 Z28 A4

my 383 took 50,000 miles of HARD driving and probably 150+ passes at the track, MANY launching at 5-6500. didn't blow, but I took it apart and #8 Piston had a cracked pin boss. it didn't have much longer.
I beat the **** out of this motor. I once laid 1/4 mile of black marks with it with 315's.

Must've had faulty parts or something was wrong with the build. That's not par favor for a built/forged LS1 engine. What went bad in it? Did your builder honor his warranty and make it right?

I would agree that it is not the norm. Faulty parts? J&E pistons, Manley rods, FM bearings, new pump, new cam, new timing chain, etc. Big name shop
That's some nasty **** ... I'd have a 'tude, too.
What warranty? "Race motors do not have a warranty." We are talking about the situation.

My 'Big name' shop stands behind their work and I'll guarantee you they would NEVER allow something like that to go unresolved. If it was their work, they'd take care of you. If was manufacturers parts, they'd resolve it with the manufacturer. You need a lawyer.
Nah, I am old school and I have been on both sides of the fence. I won't get a lawyer. The lawyers are the only ones who win in these situations. Any victory I might get from legal action would be moral and rather hollow.

I don't know who built it but it ran low on oil to the rods. Thats why the rod journals are black and blue and the rod bearings are pounded out or spun. Not good but someone should've noticed some knocking and/or low oil pressure. Was this a solid roller or a hydraulic roller engine?

Closure
To bring closure to this issue, apparently the verdict is in. Although my big name vendor talked about standing behind their work and parts up front, there is no warranty on race engines. Besides, apparently it is my fault since they could have done nothing wrong. They say my tune must have caused it to detonate, taking out the rod bearings. They conveniently ignore the facts that, the engine was fat running 107 octane with less compression and less lead than last year, and there is no sign of detonation on pistons, heads, or plugs. Caveat emptor ...
