Go with the 112 LSA for an M6, and 114 fo A4...

...good cam choice!

And yes, to me, a 238°/242° 605" 610" on 115 lsa is a race cam .

Why not use it on stock headed motor we install them everyday and have no problems at all with them or driveability. It would be a "race cam" if the lsa was on like a 113 or a 112. The "s" cam is a proven cam. Now ultimatly it comes down to what infinti wants as far as his combination and future add ons. Give us a call 281-448-1300 and we will be more than happy to assist you in any way or just drop by the shop if your in Houston and we will take care of any questions you may have.

<sigh> As much as I wanna flame, it's hard to because I was in this guys position once before.

There isn't a BEST ls1 cam. In a way, ALL cams made for the LS1 are the best, it all comes down to what you want power wise. Do you want a huge lopey cam to make the most HP, even with the lost of low end torque and the need for higher gears, and regardless of streetabilty?

Or do you want a cam that makes good power, nothing crazy, is very streetable, and doesn't require higher gears to gain absolute full potential?

If you want big power, big lope, and streetablity isnt an issue, then go with the one of the popular larger cams such as the G5X3, trex, fm14.

If you want option B, i'd go with either the TR224, or a FM13 or smaller.

I tend to favor futral cams over anyone else because their cams just rock IMO. I am soo glad I went with their FM14 cam.

I had the TR 224, but it just wasn't enough to suffice my needs and wants, so I just purchased a Torquer II.
The TR 224 was a GREAT daily driver, but wasn't enough lope for me, so I went with something bigger.

Just an FYI my cam 231/237 .595/.598 112+2 lsa idles fine. It's very choppy, but it holds an idle. 850 rpms w/o a/c on and 950 when it's on. You will probably get the HPE "S" cam when all is said and done because MR. BILL will probably convince you to do so. However, just letting you know they should both be nice cams. I just think I would prefer the F-13 for it's midrange power and driving charecteristics.

IMHO I think you are far away from getting a cam. If you will be getting ported heads in 6 months; you may want to wait untill then and have the cam installed at that time. Looks to me like you still have some decisions to make about what you plan to use the car for before you select a cam.
If you want a lot of power and torque, you are going to have a choppy idle.
Decide where in the rpm range you want the power to be.
Decide what is acceptable to you as daily driver----drives well at XXXX rpm in 6th gear, idle characteristics, will it stumble with small throttle inputs at low rpm, etc. A lot of this can be controlled with the tune; but the characteristics will come from the cam.
Just my $.02, and I seem to be a bit conservative on cam selection, but I think you can have all you are looking for with a cam in the 230°-234° .581"-.595" range on a 112° LSA + 4° (108° IC). Straight - traditional split - reverse split....whatever. That range would be a winner now and after the heads as far as a good mix of peak power and power/torque under the curve.

this is nucking futz...

Infiniti - as stated thoughout this thread, you need to decide for you what the best cam will be. As far as I can tell, the search button still works great.

I don't know why you *need* to put a cam in this weekend, and I don't need to know either. I can tell you though, if you don't start doing some research, you will be wasting a lot of money. If you are ok with spending your money like that, fine. Most people aren't.

The worst thing you can do is make un-informed decisions. Go and talk to the guys at HPE. They are very knowledgeable and will bend over backwards to help you meet your goals.

You've got 6 pages worth now.

Personally, I run the S-Cam and love it. idles at 800 RPM (will be trying for 700 in the near future) and it pulls like a mad-*** all the way to my 7k RPM rev limiter.

What's best for me though, isn't necessarily best for you.

Depends on who your tech is and his personal opinion on where you get the cam from, now it really does come down to what you want and the power you want to make. This is your desicision ultimately and we will stand behind the "s" cam and there are many people on here that have the cam and are more than pleased with it. If you want to make the power we have the cam for you, and the ability to tune the car to your new cam. give us a call or come by the shop and we will be more than willing to help you out with all your questions. 281-448-1300. Just remember you are the one spending the money and the one who has to drive this car not your mechanic or anyone else on here.
