Default Injectors on an Ls6 with heads and mild cam????

Howdy first post here

I just had AFR 205s and a mild cam installed on my 02 Z06. THe car already had long tubes on it. I spoke with 3 vendors when I was contemplating the purcashe of the heads and cam and asked all 3 to give me a package that would include every part I would need. NONE of the mentioned injectors. I wwnt to my mechanic's today and drove the car for a bit, he said I should get a good tune done, I agree and have been planning to have atune done the first day I get the car. I will get the car tommorrow around noon so I called the shop that was going to do the tune (LS1 EDIT) and they say to me, "you need injectors the stock Z06 injectors do not flow enough, we can install em for 280 including the part. I had spoken with shop before since I was going to buy Patriot heads from them, they never mentioned that I would need injectors. I also spoke with 2 other HIGHLY reputable corvette shops, and they did not mention injectors. The tunner said that if i did not buy injectors he could not properly tune the car. He said that any tune done would not allow me to run the car at WOT.

WTF am I getting scammed here

my can specs are 228 226 114

Did the tuner factor in the cost of the injectors with the total package? If not, that would be a Very important thing for them to do ASAP if it's indeed a 'complete' package.

Welcome SickZ06, I am a card-carrying lurker here, but I read and absorb every post in every thread in internal engine. Speaking vicariously, I can say that without a doubt, you are getting scammed. Most say that the stock injectors are good to well over 400 RWHP - a bit above what you should net.

As I stated, I'm a lurker only, but rest assured if my assertion is wrong or questionable, it will quickly and loudly be disputed.

I agree, in fact those injectors should be fine for well over stock hp levels...although it would be interesting (and more difficult) if they indeed were including everthing together .

You may need new injectors to fit your heads and a cam. I don't know what else you have done to your car but if you are cranking out much HP you may need to upgrade. I don't think anyone is trying to scam you, they just did not think that far ahead. The real test is to hook up a scanner and run it WOT in 3rd or 4th gear. The industry standard for fuel injectors is to run no more than 80% duty cycle. This is to leave you some reserve. If your injectors are at 100% today, and tomorrow is a cold day with more oxygen to burn you could run lean. Scan it and find the injector duty cycle, $280 is reasonable. You may find them for less money if you want to install them. Most important - get it scanned and tuned, then you will know.

At the least I would get the ford 30#ers. My car makes 400/394 and im on stock 99 injectors and the last time I see an acceptable duty cycle is 3500rpm....and im cam only. If you told them you wanted EVERYTHING and they dont give you EVERYTHING I would talk to the shop owner/manager to get the problem solved.

I know for a fact that stock Z06 injectors will handle 425 hp with no problems at WOT. Or with the mustang in the rear view mirror.

the stock Z06 injectors are rated at 28.8 at 4 bars(58psi) and should be good to approx. 450rwhp

I had stock (LS1 26lb) injectors with TSP 233/239 .600 cam and the first time I went to WOT they were running at 98% at 4800rpm. That's when I slowed down, drove home, and ordered new injectors. Maybe they will work at over 100%, but the fuel injection page will tell you that the industry standard is 80% max. What cycle are you guys seeing with stock injectors, over 100%??

Without having an opportunity to do some additional research, it's difficult to know for sure what the injector scale is for when it's time to switch. With help from my tuner, on my car we made sure we were running clean fuel, proper air/fuel ratio, and run injector cleaner through the system every oil change. Any preventative measure is a good one with regards to what it may cost afterwards. I hope this helps, even though there are several additional techniques I didn't mention.

The price for install seems kind of steep. F-Body Central installs injectors for $45, including removing the fuel rails, etc.

Well there are not a lot of instances where I wouldn't want to upgrade in case displacement was increased. I'm sure for a big block application it might be worth while, but not this one.
