Not to sound like a know-it-all, but the time spent degreeing the cam is a lot less than having to reinstall a new cam. Yak should count his blessings that he didn't get something with .650 lift, then he would be buying a new shortblock.

Like I said previously. LGM directly tells there customers to line the cam up dot to dot. The G5X3 does not come with a cam card.

I actually was a little scared at first about putting a cam like the x3 on a 112 in without degreeing it. But I called LG and they assured me that there was no problem installing it without degreeing it. They specifically told me it just has to be dot to dot. so tommorow I will use my tried and true method of installing the cam and cranking the nmotor over by hand about 10 times making sure that the gears are dot to dot after every rotation and that no valves are hitting pistons. alot of people think I am nuts doing this to my car, but there is nothing like being 17 with a beast of a car.

You're preachin' to the choir here Ed, I asked for a cam card, they send the advertised info, nothing more. I just assumed (yea, I know) that each and every NEW NON-STOCK cam sold came WITH a full spec cam card. My take on it is they grind one, spec it, then put the machine on full-auto and crank em' out by the dozen without spec'ing each and every one. I'm not going to mention who the outfit is, they are as nice as can be, really! Yea, that and a quarter gets me a cup of coffee. Anyway, my card-less cam is in a box w/Thunders address on it, they offer the service for a small fee. This whole episode goes on the "Lessons Learned" list for sure.

Mine is bigger than the X3, on a 113, and I didn't degree it. If you get it lined up right you will be just fine.

You will also know as soon as the turn the key to start it that it's not stock this time.

To each his own. I guess I'm either a nerd or paranoid. I did see a neat trick on a CompCams video. Paint a small, straight, white line thru the dot on each sprocket. It makes lining them up a lot easier to see.

I thought MTI made a cam called the Y1...

did a quick search of their page, and they do make a cam called the Y1, though I doubt its the one you got.

Hopefully we can get this ****** to idle.

Good deal yak. Do you have tuning software? Most likely you need to bring down the cranking VE on the 400, 800 and 1200 columns to get it to startup on a hot start.

I have no tuning software and it has trouble with hot starts. We played with the tps sensor and the set screw yesterday and it seems to do good with could starts. starts, rpms fall to about 100, then it catchs and sputters few a few seconds and starts to find the idle. hot starts are a different story. It just wants to die and I need to keep my foot on the gas for a couple minutes at about 1200rpm to keep it alive. then I cross my fingers and hope it doesn't stall when I put it in gear.

Sounds better than I would have expected. How long till you get it tuned?

I am hoping to get it tuned in a couple days. Roght now it gets about 5mpg. If I stand behind the car all I can smell is unburnt fuel. I am not sure if it knocks or not, but when I put the pedal to the floor sometimes, it won't downshift and pulls real slow.

Best not to put the pedal to the floor when running a large, untuned cam.

Probably won't hurt anything, but you never know and better safe than sorry.
