Default My 'G5X3' experiance

Two weeks ago I bought a 'G5X3 on a 112' from a sponcer on this board. I just finished installing it today. When myself and my buddy went to fire it up we were very suprised. The motor cranked right over and found idle at 1000rpm there was no lope, no stumbling or anything associated with a big cam. I can hear some valvetrain ticking (sewing machine). What hapeened, did I get ripped off? There was no markings on the cam to note that it was an G5X3 it only said Y1 on the back like the stocker did. If the sponcer that I bought this cam from sees this post please call me. Hopefully this can be resolved without it becomeing a big mess. Anyone have any ideas as to what I put in.

BTW the car drives like stock, a lot of power down low and up top. no surging or bucking and this is all on a stock A4 through a stock tune.

Thats a big cam. it took a while just too get mine to idle, on its own with just a drivability tune. we had too crack the tb alot to get it to idle, and it still surges some after the tune.take it to a dyno, your hp peak should be around 6500-6600 rpm.

I almost **** myslef when it fired up and didn't die. Myslef and SLPcars98 just looked at each other like wtf. the car doesn't even smack the revlimiter like its making a lot of power up top.

When you put a real g5in there you will love it.You will need at least 3.73 and a big stall to take avantage of the power up top.BUT IT ROCKS!!!!!!!

no, there was no cam card, but the specs on the X3 are unreleased anyway. I am very disappointed at the moment after tearing my motor apart only to find that what I put in makes my car sound stock again.

I'll be interested to see what you put in there. There's no way you got mixed up and reinstalled the stocker, is there?

As previously stated, the cam you installed obviously isn't an X3.

What a nightmare! I would be pissed, after all that work. There's NO chance a G5X3 sounds and runs like stock.

KIDS! Every cam needs to be degreed and compaired to specs on cam card before start up.

Reality is vast majority of us do not degree our cams.

Just to clear the air, this cam was not purchased from LGM. There was a mix up with the person who Yak bought it from.

Unfortunately not every sponsor selling cams on this site provides a "true" cam card w/every cam they sell, I guess they have their reasons......

Wow, major suckage. They ought to give you that thing for free now seeing that you have to take that cam out again and put the right one back in! That's another 8 or so hours you would probably rather spend tuning it.

My TR224 came with a cam card, and even as small as that cam is, it took it a while to find idle.

I am very curious what you landed up installing, I really am!

at first I thought it may have been an ls6 cam. But now I am thinking it is just a stocker. I also installed an ls6 intake and that may be what gave me a little jump in power.
