Default help!!

o.k i got my car done. started 1st twist of the key. runs like crap....
the car is
was stock 98 SS with headers, cat back, lid. no tune, cam, ect

what she got
tea 1.5 5.3 heads
220 @.050 cam
lsx intake and 90mm tb
ls6 maf meter
asp underdrive pulley
scorpin roller rockers
new hd stock length push rods
ls6 ported oil pump
(note: the heads/cam/rockers were used. made 420 to the tire on a vette)

problems
idles at 2400. sprayed carb clean around intake & tb. made no difference.
if you force the idle down past 1600, motor stalls.
runs like the timing is off....
no throttle response to speak of.
i tripple checked all connections, everything is fine that i can tell.
i followed the lsx instructions for all of this.
i eliminated the smog pump and plumming
had to change over to 99 up style valve covers and pcv tubing (modifed)
i am open to any ideas at this point......

Untuned?

You will need tuning for that combo to run right.

Well, you changed heads/cam/intake/MAF so I wouldn't expect the stock tune to be able to handle it. Have a competent tuner work their magic and see what happens.

I am curious as to why it idles at 2400, that doesn't sound normal. How do you force the idle down to 1,600?

by hand, apply a little force to close the TB..

the 2400 idle is a mystery. i was guessing a vacume leak but, nothing i did helped.....

I think something is wrong if you can close the throttle body blade, at idle, by pushing on it. Shouldn't it be all the way down against the idle set screw?

I'll check mine when i go out later, but I don't think that is right.

you definately need a tune, but the 2400 rpm idle is a bit strange. I would have guessed it would stall out.

until you can get a tune, i'd put the stock MAF back in.

I figured out the "fast" idle problem. the lsx intake moves the throttle cable slightly farther away than stock. i'm still playing with that to get it perfect. however.
current observations.
car won't idle when cold, idles like crap when hot.(needs massive tuning?)
has fantastic throttle response(surprised with the tuning issues)
car is louder like, i cut the mufflers off.. doesn't appear to have any leaks (same exhaust as before)
also, the car gets hot fast. after 3 minutes idling, it's at 230ish(both fans on)
tuning again? this must be leaner than hell.....
