how big of a cam an stock motor
what are you trying to accomplish with the motor. You might want to look at what the best combination of cam/boltons that you have. to give you the best numbers. I mean with my setup most people are getting in the 420's at the wheels with all the bolt on's. but once you throw a set of good heads on the car you may only gain 20 or so at the wheels. where as if you go with somthing like a f13 you might not gain as much now with cam only, but that cam loves a set of p/p heads. Gomer on here has a car that made 487 with all the bolt on's and the smaller F13 with some well worked 5.3's. o well just my .02. so it is mainly all up to what you want.

Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft - T-ReX v.2 - 242/248 - .608/.612 - 110 lsa 3500-6700 RPM Power Band. Violent mid-range & high RPM power. Requires computer tuning, 4000+ converter on autos, 4.10's or greater on manual trans cars. Due to the fast ramp rate of this camshaft, the use of 1.8 rockers is not recommended. Due to the extreme nature of this camshaft, piston to valve clearance must be verified when using modified cylinder heads.
i plan on running the trex for now. Probably a little too much cam for most as a daily driver. Many do it. Mines a weekend warrior, so i want it to make some noise. Later when i get heads, i'll get a cam to match. The qtp quick cam cover would be sweet to have too.

IMO, I'm not an advocate of those Huuuge cams for street applications on a stock bottom motor.
You want a big gun, you got to be able to handle the kickback.
There are many more streetable cams that will make as much power and more with the proper matching parts.
Build it right or back off, that has always been my moto.
