Default old 918 springs

So I heard non blue 918's like to break, now is that from reving a cold engine or those wires just like to break? Also heard valve springs need to be changed every 20k mi. is that so? I am running a 224/ .581 112 cam do I really have to change valve springs that frequent?

A certain batch of the old "Green Stripe" 918's were defective. They were revised into the "blue" ones around 3 years ago.
Aftermarket springs need maintenance like changing oil, changing timing chain etc...
Depending on how radical the cam is, you have to take off and measure every spring once every 10>15Ks. If within specs you are good for another 10K, if not, then change the whole set.

My 918s have well over 15k on them and they run great.

My cam is mild. I am expecting my REV double springs to last at least 35K. Is this wishful thinking....?

They have about 20K now.... no issues so far...

well when the springs get tired do they just start to lose tension or they will just break and drop the valves with no warning?

They will show sign of pressure loss, that is why you should check them once every 10>15K depending on how you drive and what cam they are with.
BTW most spring failures are due to improper geometry or improper operation temperatures when whacked on.
