Default Any cam-only stock-exhaust Z06s?

I was thinking of adding a cam, tune, and a Blackwing to my '02 Z06. I'd like to keep the exhaust note & volume stock, so for now I'd like to not do headers. Is there anybody who has this setup? Could I reach 400rwhp with only these mods? My car currently makes 368/362 and its bone stock.

Also, a friend has a 221/221 112lsa cam (forget the lift....around 560 I think) he's trying to sell.....would this work well for my car?

Thanks,
Kris

I don't know of any cam-only Z06's that still use the stock exhaust....however there is someone on the board with a Z06 that left the stock cam in and swapped over to a set of milled AFR 205's. He was putting over 400 to the ground through the stock Z06 exhaust manifolds.

Have you heard the stock exhaust through longtubes and high flow cats? I don't think my Z06 has gotten much louder than before. Although I have heard a car with longtubes, no cats through the stock titanium and it was much loader. Just a thought.

You can add a Blackwing, but you will need a tune as the Blackwing seems to mess with the unscreened MAF on the Z06. If you don't tune it, you'll end up running rich in many cases and dropping some power.

It would be close cam only to make 400 RWHP and keep it stock sounding. The big thing is if you want to keep it stock sounding. If so, you'll need a fairly tame cam. What you may end up with is a cam which will fatten up the midrange of the car, but not necessarily make huge gains up top. Even if peak stays close to what it is now, if you pick up 15-20 across the whole midrange, the car is going to be faster.

You may not have cool dyno sheets to post up, but you can go faster.

As for the cam you posted. Its ok, but there are better lobes and better designs. You could probalby do something around 212-218 on the intake side and 216-222 on the exhaust @ a 112 LSA. You'd need you tuner to throw a bit of timing at idling to tame down the sound.

Alternately, you could go with the CheaTR cam from TR. It probably make a buit more peak power, and follow the same sort of power curve as a stock Z06 cam. You probably see more peak power than the cam I mentioned but probably not as much midrange.

From driving a Z06 that is bone stock compared with a buddies stock car with LGMs and cats with stock exhaust here is my observations. I got more vibration and noise from the floor area than with the stock exahust. The exhaust sound of course got a bit louder and changed tone just a bit. It wasn't obnoxious it was just something I noticed.

Helped tune a buddys car 02 Z06 who was COMPLETLY stock, minus the cam. It was a pretty healthy cam, like 242/237 on a 113...made 412rwhp on a 90 degree texas day. It was bottle necked by the setup for sure, as that same cam made 450rwhp in a H/C 346 through an unlocked automatic

I read in GM High Performance that the newly designed stock exhaust header is very good and hard to beat...

Considering all the hastles with LT headers I would never mod my exhuast again....

Go with the cam only and never look back...
