Hotcam thoughts from experience.
First off I'd like to say "yeah....you were right." I just changed out my Hotcam (218/228 525/525 112) and went with a lil bigger TSP (224/228 581/588 112) and even though the cam is bigger it idles smoother and better all together in my M6. This is my second Hotcam in as many motors and I cant believe I actually was a believer in it.
Needless to say I love this new cam and will never touch the "good ole Hotcam" again.

You knew you could get a cam that would idle better AND make more power when you first put the Hotcam in right ? All you have to do is trade the "easy on the valvetrain" lobes on the Hotcam for a quicker ramp rate cam and you'll always get a better idle and make more power. This comes at the expense of increased valve spring/valve train stress however. It's not that the hotcam is bad, it just doesn't push the mechanical envelope very much and retains near stock reliability. It all depends on what you want though. Glad to hear you're happy with your new cam

The Hotcam is a great "middle of the road" cam for folks that want a great sounding nasty idle, but is easy on the valve train. People want different things out of their cars, I ran a HC for a while and no bad will here, RUN what you want, screw what other peeps think......

Oh RACEHEAD... at the time I thought the HotCam was a good streetable cam and didn't know about the idling issues. It was fine on my LT1.

From the descriptions posted here the LS1 Hotcam sounds like what I am interested in. I want more performance without sacrificing reliability. I want a car with streetability that will run respectably on the drag strip.

I like my Hotcam also. Someone said "its just the cam" as in the Hotcam cant be tuned to idle good. I dont know squat about Hp Tuners and I got my car to idle "too good" with the Hotcam to the point where I wanted more of the lope back. Its not magic or voodoo. Its a 219/228 with .525 lift. There is no such a thing as "its just the cam".

I was like RedBandit and thought it was the greatest. But don't we always when we have it. I'm glad I saw the light. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are guys out there who love the HotCam like I did but I've never seen someone step down to a HotCam and like it.

A Hotcam cam-only car at 392rwhp?
I've seen the 224 hit 400 cam-only but I have NEVER seen the Hotcam hit 392.
A Hotcam outperforming a 224 means either the Hotcam car has way more done to it or the 224 is a lemon or the dude can't drive. That's just how it goes. The 224 is a MUCH better performing cam.

I love my Hotcam...
Made 621 RWHP with my hotcam. 11psi boost and stage 1 heads..
I had the motor out and had the opertunity to change her. But I kept the cam.. Over 700RWHP now with more boost..
I origionaly got this cam because of the price, and the fact it would be a good blower cam with a bad *** idle...

Totally... dunno about your car club, but I've had both and I can tell you that there is no way with all being equal that the Hotcam will outperform the 224. NO WAY. My Hotcammed car with LT's with true duals only put down 350rwhp.

I never said cam only. It's a full bolt on car with random cats, 1.8 rockers and a FAST 78 mm setup so it's a long way from "cam only" lol ! He goes by WAHUSKER on this board

The TR224 car just has a ported stock T/B on an LS6 intake. Not exactly a "all things equal" type of comparison, but the hotcammed car traps 7 mph higher ? Like I said before it's just one experience with these cams. I'm sure others have entirely differant experiences
Dunno how the HC car trapped 7mph faster. Could you tell me the trap speed? Mine with bolt ons and HC trapped only 108.

LOL comparing a Hotcam'd car that also has a FAST intake and 1.8rrs to a 224 car with an LS6 intake and ported TB...not really a good comparison, don't you think?
Many things can contribute to the Hotcam'd car being FASTER, but that means the car is faster, not that the cam is better.
I've seen stock LS1 intake'd cars hit 400. Doesn't mean an LS6 car at 390 makes the LS6 intake WORSE, just means one car has more done to it that makes it faster.
Put the 224 in the HC'd car and then we'll have a good comparison.
