Default if you had $2500...

I have a 2001 SS M6 pretty much stock except for lid, 160termostat, cut out, and pretty soon koni's+sam strano 35mm sway bar. I'm going to get at least $2500 from selling my daily driver(I'm selling because I'm going back to Italy), so I would like to spend some money on the camaro. What parts would you guys suggest me to get? Without labour since I'll install them when I get in italy.

Is that enough money to consider getting a bigger engine or just go with headers and cam (maybe heads too?)? I think I might have piston slap so would I have enough $$ to get forged pistons in case that would be the problem?

Yeah I'm a newbie so sorry if my questions sound silly..

thanks,

Lorenzo

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I would use the car pretty much just in race tracks times to times and NO DRAG at all.

With $2500 you could prolly get some nice pacesetter LT's w/3in ory and then put the cutout back in the i-pipe, good cam kit, pulley, ported TB, good clutch/flywheel, and short-throw shifter. And if you go w/ a smaller cam you could prolly get away w/ no tune althought a tune would get you the best numbers. These mods ought to net you some solid ETs. If this does go over ur budget theres as quality used parts. Thats my 2 cents

do a cam TR224 is agreat all around cam. then exhaust LT's all the way back. thats a great start. i have around $10,000 in mods done to my car. all installed by me. the best way to make the money go farther.

many companies have heads/cam kits for $2000 or less, spend the rest of it getting headers and a cheap exhaust. if your like me $2500 doesn't really come very often so get what you can out of it and save the smaller stuff for later since its easier to save for

thanks for your replies,

so nobody suggest forged pistons? Is it because of the price or because If I do pistons I still have to do heads and cam?

I already have slp dual dual exhaust, I think I'll stick with that one..

Price and no reason for you to get pistons with your mods. If you were going to change any bottom end part, it would be your connecting rods and rod bolts.

spend it on a 12 bolt w/ a 4.10 gear, and you'll have 2-3 hundred dollars left over to spend on sticky tires. just that will net you solid high 12's in a completely stock car.

I agree w imslow. If you plan on drag racing the car go for a stronger rear w better gearing first. I made the mistake of makng power before traction and I can't get any to the ground as I can't run sticky tires. If I could mod over again a stronger rear would be right after lid @ cutout.

exactly! besides, you will break the rear end soon on sticky tires, and eventually even on street tires. you can buy the rear end w/ the gear, and you can sell the stock rear end that's still in working condition for a few hundred bucks and then put that money towards another mod........ say a short throw shifter.

thanks again for replies,

I'm actually thinking to get a brake kit(maybe brembo) + headers (possibly with catted x pipe) and a cam kit.

Since I would use the car pretty much just the WE on race tracks (NO drag racing) or autocross, I think the brake are a must.

hopefully the stock rear end will do the job, it has 23k miles on..

any other comments?

so you don't plan on drag racing at all??? then by all means go for the brakes and headers..... however, even road racing a gear is still VERY benificial... open road racing is probably the only type of racing where having the stock gear is fine. lol

would you highly recommend the rear end even for race tracks (again, NO drag)?

i would say, lid, cutout, pacesetter LT's and the asa cam with the LS6 pushrods and springs and a tune (. if you shop around you can get a nice set of stock LS6 heads and have them ported for about 800 bucks and then some nittos...i would just stick with 10 bolt, because when it breaks, a new one is 150

I love it! Getting the last of the bolt ons and a SPEC 3 clutch within the month, then going in for the re-tune and hopefully newer (400whp+) numbers.

The MS3 idles like a bad ***, then backs it up all the way to 6800rpm.

not really... you probably wouldn't need it unless you were pushing a big amount of h.p. through it. i still would recomend a gear change though. a deeper gear is better for road racing. you'll probably not ever top out with 6 gears in even with a 4.10, it will also tighten up the gear ratios so you will have no "dead" spots during shifting at different parts of the track. you'll always be in a good spot rpm/powerband wise. just my .02
