Default Quick Alternator pully install question

I have my asp underdrive pully and overdrive alternator pully sitting here and I want to throw them on. I know how to put do the crank pully but is the anything special I need to do to remove/install the alternator pully. I havent made an attempt at it yet other than just looking at it and seeing what size socket goes on the nut. Do i need an impact wrech or anything or will the nut just unscrew without any difficulties. I normally would just go and get working on it but I am fairly busy today and dont want to get hung up on a fairly simple install. (I did search so dont bash me) Thanks.

Anyone? I am in the middle of it right now and it looks like you need to use a 24 mm wrench and an allen wrench. I unfortunately dont have a 24 mm wrench only a socket

to get that alternator pully off, you'll need an impact wrench! There is some crazy tool that you can possibly make, but it'll take 2 seconds with an impact wrench. The problem is the nut is free spinning with the pulley and that's where the torque of the impact wrench comes in to play. I've seen someone post some tool they've made to hold the pulley in place while unscrewing the nut. Just get an impact wrench. You'll thank yourself in the end.

Thats what I figured. I guess I will have to make a trip to the hardware store. Do you keep the belt on the pully so you'll have a little resistance or is the impact wrech enough by itself?

I had all the belts out when I took mine off. Either way you'll be fine if you have an impact wrench. I'd try with the belts on first so you do have a little resistance.

i dont think you would get enough resistance, but an impact worked fine for me.. hope you get it figured out, kinda hard to hold the allen with a socket on there, and finding a wrench that will reach in.. best of luck to you!

everyone here use alternator pulley pullers and installers? I never swapped the alternator pulley on an ls- based engine but I know on some cars the removal and installation tool is essential.

A pulley puller for this task isn't going to work. The nut is free spinning w/ the pulley and once it's off, then it'll slide right off.

Hey. Super easy fix here. Take it to an Autoparts store, and let them do it for ya. They may charge you, but even that wouldn't be much at all.

A box end wrench and a torx T-50 on a 3/8 drive ratchet will do the trick nicely! Get a quality Torx socket or you will break it!
