I know that you cannot reuse the head bolts on an ls1 engine. I would buy another set just to be safe. The reason you can't reuse the ls1 head bolts is because when you torque them the stretch, then the next time you torque them it is likely that they will break and you will be left with half a bolt in your block.

thats what I figured, but I wasnt sure if the heat when an engine was running had anything to do with the stretching.

head bolts, no. unless they havent been torqued to 70#ft. The gaskets should be fine because if you install the arp head bolts, you have to cycle the bolts 3-5 times...torque to 40 or so, loosen a 1/4 turn, then retorque....so with that, id say its safe for the gaskets, no go for the bolts.

I wouldn't chance it. It is not worth having to tear down the motor again to replace the head gasket if it blows. And if you buy the new bolts, which you do need, and blow a gasket, then you would have to buy another set of bolts. Just my 2cents

If you plan on pulling the heads in the future, or somewhat often, just invest in a set of ARP head bolts. Their convenience pays for itself. Otherwise, just get some new GM's. Gaskets should be fine to use again as long as they have not been heat cycled or run for a while on the engine.
