Question TB coolant bypass ?

Just yesterday I found out that my car had been burning engine coolant/anti-freeze for the past 4 weeks since the H/C were put in. Finally after a month my car overheated because there wasnt much coolant left at all . I took a look at the engine checked the Coolant (which was empty) and then noticed the tubing that moves the anti-freeze into the TB was loose. It had been leaking beneath the TB and was burning up by the engine. I filled the coolant back up and then bypassed the throttle body with new tubing. Now the car is running fine, thank god

My question is what does the throttle body coolant bypass do? Is it better for the car? keeps it cooler? less of a hassle?

It just keeps the tb from freezing over.

A lot of people do the TB bypass as a performance mod. I did it and didn't notice any increase in power. The theory is that the TB will be cooler and create more power because the air flowing through will be cooler. I am sure it is cooler, but as for a power increase, I'm not sure. Can't hurt though.

Yea, can't hurt for you since you live in TX and don't see very much freezing weather.

I did it too. Didn't see any increase of power. It does make changing the TB easier though.

You didn't notice antifreeze burning off for 4 weeks? I hate the smell of antifreeze and panic when I get a wiff of it in traffic.

I thought about doing the bypass, but it drops below freezing here so I decided to leave it stock and not risk freeze up for .0001hp

I think even with temps below freezing you will be fine?

I did the mod too. hp increase might be 2/3 hp if any. here is my theory. I installed a temp gage on tb inlet body side before mod. ( VENOM-RACING.COM )wire wraps around body, the center of wire is made of glass. that makes the gauge sensitive to temp changes. gauge reads current w/ peak temp recall. drove my car (ws6) to work and back w/ gauge installed, performed mod re-installed temp gauge, again drove to work and back home, checked highest store temp for that day and read 20 deg cooler. performed it three more time and again w/ mod was 20 deg cooler.this was done in the month of april, 2005. we know that engines run better in the winter due to cooler air, so picture this 70 deg outside compared to 90 deg.engines run better at 70 deg then 90 deg, right? of course thats what intercoolers are for, cool incoming air equals more power. so that is why GM installed tb heaters, for the drivers up north during the winter.
just my theory here. hope this helps some.

I actually didnt smell the antifreeze, i did smell something like antifreeze but i didnt pay attention to it. I ran over a plastic bag on the freeway and it melted to my Y-Pipe, now everytime my car gets heated up it smeels like burnt plastic. So i guess just assumed that wierd smell was the plastic bag, hadnt occured to me that a car with 20k miles would have coolant problems...
