Installing CAM (TR224/224 112) Do I need titanium retainers & double valve springs?
Well the subject basically covered what I'm asking. I've searched throughout LS1Tech & have decided to choose a TR224/224 cam with 112 LSA (b/c I have an M6) because it seems very streetable but produces some nice power numbers. Now my question is whether I need titanium retainers for the valve springs or can I use my stockers? If I go with titanium, I assume it just increases strength & obviously saves weight. Will that be overkill since I'm really not going with a crazy cam? Also, do I need double valve springs? From checking posts, it seems that singles will work for me & that doubles would just be overkill but I'd like to get some reassurance since most of you guys have more experience with this than me. Also if you know of any tricks that aren't covered in the walkthrough of installing a cam, I'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks in advance guys!!!

all you need at minumum is comp cams 918 springs. Hardened pushrods are a good idea as well. Thats it.
People will recommend a new timing chain and oil pump. If your car is low mileage you wont really need them.

I'm doing the same setup but w/ the 114 lsa cam. I just got the cam package from TR. It seems from what I've read that the double valvesprings and titanium retainers can be used for better peace of mind but are not necessary. Many people run this setup w/ out them and have zero problems.
I also got the LS2 timing chain ($35) and LS6 oil pump ($60) since my car has higher mileage, 85K. I would go ahead and change them out while you have it torn apart.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

I'm rolling with the same cam. Been having it in since June and I had TR put in the cam, timing chain, and oil pump. I didn't upgrade the retainers just keep the stockers. I did however go with 918s and new pushrods. You made a good choice in this one. You don't have to get a monster cam to make good power and still get respect. All you need is the right combo.

Comp 918's are fine for the .567 lift on that cam. They are good for .600 lift. titanium retainers are nice, but not needed. dual springs would be overkill and cause some additional valvetrain noise.

Yea, that's the combo I'm running except I have the 114 lsa. I think the extras are nice not but not necessarily needed. This combo makes good power but I think I'm gonna go more radical this winter.

Yeah, you don't need double springs, this would be a waste of money unless you're going above 230 intake duration. The blue stripes do just fine and I used them for almost 50k on my 224 setup before I changed my cam. As for the pump, I wouldnt change it unless you had over 40k on the clock. Ti retainers are peace of mind.
