Default Tr224 Vs Comp Xe-r 224

Alright guys, I'm thinking of swapping to a smaller cam. I want some real data to back up the differences between these two cams. I'd like to have some graphs showing the torque curve. I'm mainly concerned with area under the curve power. If you can find me another cam besides these two let me know. I have a full set of bolt-ons. My current cam (tsp231/237) kicks in around 3,000rpms and pulls to 6,700rpms. I never go past 6,000rpms (105k mile engine) so this is not really the cam for me. Plus I don't go to the track, it's just an all around daily driver. I can't enjoy the power till 3,000rpms so it's really useless on the street. I have all the supporting mods to handle the cam so I'm just looking for a direct cam swap and proof that xe-r lobes are better than the lobes on the tr224. I'm open to all ideas, but I want proof that it works, not he said she said stuff. I'm really not wanting to lose my max power (386 before pulley and TB) but if it's necassary to get more under the curve so be it. I'm looking for at least 380rwtq also.

777, it would be best to try to find someone with a cam doctor sheet for these two to show you duration at as many lift points as possible and compare the two (the one with more overal average duration is the more agressive and will produce the most power given the valve train is able to control it, which 918s and stock rockers and lifter should be able to do so). we are only talking minimal power differences between the two so I don't think you can accurately draw comparisons between the two from examining dyno graphs unless it is from the exact same car on the exact same dyno with the exact same setup. Good luck

Where can I order this cam from. I'm guessing this is DAP's cam? I want to get this in by next weekend so I can get it tuned when I'm down in Tampa. I also assume that this cam would be fine on the bigger 231/237 cam's tune? Is it going to run rich? Should I get better gas mileage from this cam. I would think due to the extra low-end. Also can this cam be had on an XE-R lobe or would it be better to just stay with an XE lobe? I want to order this thing today!

I'm looking at getting a 224/224, .588/.588 110+0 or 112+0
I'm A4 so I'm worried about vacuum for brakes.
It will idle better and be easier to tune. It should in theory make a few more ponies, but maybe loose ~5rwtq down low.

BTW I'm thinking on Cam Motion lobes. Basically a modified FM2. (Futral)

Any particular reason for going cam motion instead of comp xe or xer

Yes, they may have a better lobe design but who knows for sure. Once again you are splitting hairs though (unless the lobe is so damn agressive it is causing valve train havoc, which i'm pretty sure none of these will do).

I'm really not sure if I want to go with the xe lobes or the xer's. I know the xe's work (your dynograph) I don't want the xe-r's to beat my drivetrain up too bad. I don't want to replace my 105k mile lifters either. I guess the thing is the xe is proven so is there any reason to risk an xe-r lobe?

Good point, and a question you must ask yourself. You may give up a little power but the alternative maybe destruction of a lifter and trust me, I know first hand via comp r's, when a lifter comes apart it's a real ugly site.

I'll probably just go with the xe lobes. I'm more concerned about longer engine life than 5-10rwhp under the curve. I'll already have LOADS!!!! more under the curve than I currently have going with the xe cam, going off of your graph of course.

The 224/224 .565/.565 110+4LSA has been ordered. I can't wait to see how this thing changes my car's power. I'm excited.

Most definatly. Should have it in by next weekend, I'll give you an SOTP gain ASAP. Then I'll go get it re-dyno tuned and let ya'll know the numbers.

This sounds the most accurate way, but you could just compare ramp durations. Even with different lobe shapes, if the lobe lift and Advertised Duration are similar then the shorter ramp duration will still average longer overal duration across lift points, right? Plus you can simplify this to a single number for comparison. I presume you have the duration at .050 and .004/.006...

I am also anxious to see how you like it and what kind of tq and hp you make. Also where in the rpms you make the tq and hp. Should have a nice idle to it .

I hope it has a nice idle. I don't know if it will rival the lope of my current cam though. It hits pretty hard.

I already have the PRC valvespring kit. What should I do as far as springs when I replace them? Is there any advantage of going with the 918's over another set of the prc's?
