Default building a 409 iron block stroker - i have questions?

4.00 stroke and 4.035 bore, i plan on the new t.e.a. 6.0 liter stage 3 heads, the car is gonna be street driven( not a daily driver though) and taken to the drags a few times through the year. what is a good compression for me to be at, and it does not matter if i have to use octane boost, and also i need a good strong cam, i have a 6speed so i want to hear it. i will be at some point running a 150 to 200 shot also? thanx for any help you can offer!

You will be good to go for sure on 93 octane with 11 to 1 compression and could even go up to 11:25 (as that's what my LQ4 MTI 427 will run.)

Get some great stage III heads (with big valves)(oh, now i see you are good to go with heads) and MTI offers two great cams for strokers, the R1 which is more conservative and of course the S1, which is a aggressive hyd cam which i am going to run (244/244; .612 lift and 112lsa).

The R1 (See specs on MTIs website) is run by Jayson, owner of MTI in his 436 stroker and made around 485rwhp thru his M6. This would work for your set up real good as far as everyday driverability and occassional romps at track. If you want to go more radical, go with the S1 which is still totally streetable but nothing as streetable as the R1.

Best of luck,

MTI 427 C5 Roadster

Eric...couple of thing to consider:

#1 - To get that kind of compression from a 6.0 head, it'll have to be milled and/or the combustion chambers may need material added to them. Generally, people choose 6.0 heads to lower compression....

#2 - If the heads are heavily milled, you may limit the lift and duration of the cam you want to run....

#3 - Since you are getting a forged rotating assembly, you can get the pistons already fly cut for a bigger cam and higher compression....

I would talk to a professional such as Chris at Diamond pistons and see what he recommends for pistons with milled heads and that big *** cam (i.e. do your homework bruddah)

With a superstroker I would go with LS6 ported heads. Run about 11.5:1 compression and definitely get valve reliefed pistons with dropped ringlands for spray
Cheers,
Chris

i talked to brent at tea and he said i can use flat top pistons and no milling of the 6 liter heads and i could get 11 to 1 compression. sound right to you guys?

My 422ci (4.060x4.075 stroke) has been running the S1 cam, which is 244/244//112. It's a lopey Muvva.

You can run up to 12:1 depending on how you tune the car, I'm ~11.75:1 maybe a little more and I only run 26 degrees of timing at peak. At the last dyno my AF was up to 12:1 and we made 471rwhp/505rwtq thru a 9" on 28" slicks.

If you have enuff piston to valve clearance you can run a bigger cam for sure.

I think Katech sells the biggest over the counter cam grind, it's like a 253/112 cam.

I agree with some of the earlier posts made. I would go with LS6 heads over the 6.0l head. That is what I did and I will be able to tell you soon next week how it turns out. The install is set for next weekend. I did get MTI stage III LS6 heads and I went with a .240/.240 @ .609/.609 on a 112 LSA. I also have the M6 so I will be able to tell you very soon how it idles. Mine too is going to be street driven but not everyday. I am hoping to get close to 500rwhp which is our goal. We will see though. I'll be happy with anything close.

Good luck on your build. I'll let you know how mine goes.
