Default how much $ for heads and cam installed

I am thinking about getting heads and cam installed. I live just outside of baton rouge, Any idea what I should expect to pay. with a tune.
I would like to stay below $2500 but the parts alone will probabbly cost around 2k.

Normal labor I have seen from shops ranges from $1000+ just for the install. That doesn't include fluids or gaskets/bolts.

I have had quotes as high as $6,500.00! Definitely worth doing it yourself if you are mechanically inclined. There is plenty of help available.

or have a private installer to it I've seen prices as low as $300 for a heads and cam swap.

It would probably take me awhile to stop laughing at any shop that quoted that price to me. Then I'd probably make a smart a$$ remark on how I could buy the whole engine for less then that.

I'm not 100% certain but I think when I asked a shop a year ago I was quoted about $1500. Which still seems rediculously high to me. Definately a job you might either want to tackle yourself or pay a local board member (with experience) cash under the table. You'll still want to get it professionally tuned afterwards though.

so first think about how much u want to invest, then calculate parts/labor. decide what u want to spend on labor, start looking for labor or do it yourself. you would save alot doing it yourself. I'm currently in the do it yourself market. investments are around $3500.00 . that includes, H/C, kooks Lt,ory,ls6 oil pump, tsp cam,lifters,p-rods,ls6 t-chain. etc.. for h/c set-up. now r u running a m6 or a-matic. that is involving stall . see $ just adds up. so pick ur priority and go fm there. good luck dude.

smit2732, PM sent. I can tell you that you will not come close with 2500 bucks total. Most installs are pretty cheap...but you have alot of other things to consider. Gaskets, new oil, and a GOOD TUNE! a good set of heads that are assembles are gonna run 2500 bucks alone. Dont forget that you need valves, locks, valve springs, etc. AND A CAM. Look to spend 4K to have a good set up.

Youd be suprised, there is this one shop in Atlanta which will rename nameless which told me $8000 to install a set of heads and cam. including the heads and cam. Even then you looking at almost what? $5500 in labor?

i have to disagree. we havnt been told what type of heads and valvetrain, if this comes with new oil pupmp and timing chain and what type they are, if this includes dyno tuning and warentee, etc etc. I could go on and on. If they quote you that much, then there is a reason. saying that a quote of 8k is 2500 for heads/cam and 5500 in labor alone is asinine. Any set of heads, cam, valvetrain that is worth its salt is going to run more than that. At LEAST 3K

Have you priced around? The $6,500.00 was from a very reputableand well known shop and has done lots of these packages. It includes all parts, labor, and a dyno tune. I'm not just guessing, I priced around. That's why I'm doing it myself.
