Carbed LS-1 Questions...
The questions I have are; Do I need a different cam for a naturally aspirated LS-1 instead of the stock cam?
Also, I would like to get more HP out of this set-up. I have heard good things about the new ET performance heads. What set-up for a stock cubed LS-1 would give good power and good driveability from 2000-6000 RPM. More specifically; Head runner size & combustion chamber, cam specs, lifter brand, push-rod length, lifter ratio/brand would work not touching the bottom end.
Any input or suggestions from LS-1 guru's is highly appreciated!!!!
I new to this also and plan on putting a carbed LQ4 in my 79 Monte Carlo. To the best of my knowledge in the mags they have run a stock Ls6 with the carbed set up and no problems. I believe it made somewhere in the upper 400s HP stock and low 500s with a cam. In my opinion the LS1 mould make more power with a cam that has a narrower lobe separation angle than the stock one.
Good luck with the conversion.
GM also has an intake manifold (PN 88958675) that allows the use of a carburetor on the LS1. In this case computer and extension harness are sold separately.
going even further with an HEI distributor and
cam driven fuel pump. Couple of months back.
But I like the spark punch of a coil per cylinder.
Seems like without the PCM you have a lot more
latitude in cam because you don't have to worry
about freaking out or maxing out sensors. Big as
quits making a difference, or the other valvetrain
stuff needed to go with it starts getting too
expensive. All EFI is trying to do is be a perfect
carburetor anyway. Why be perfect when you can
be a naughty cave man?
