Wow with your current cam you have to be close to PV, I would think an over rev or float might be a disaster. Notching the pistons is time consuming, but not terribly difficult. To me the most important part is measure, measure , measure. Do a search, there is a great write up that I found to be invaluable. Locally a head with the Isky tool rented for $50.

Not really that difficult, just time consuming with the all the measuring.

flycut how to

Most places will rent you a flycutting "kit" for about $50 or so.

Can I ask why you think his PV clearance is close? Just wondering because I have a Crane 228/232 .600" 112lsa cam and was told the PV clearance is nothing of an issue on the LS6 heads I had in there and then when I went to the AFR205 heads was told "hell no" on the problem is PV clearance. Just wondering since his cam is not much different.

I have a Comp XER 228/230 .588/.591 112+2 with Absolute speed 5.3 heads unmill, everybody told me it would fit no problem. I was dubious and put a degree wheel on and at 8-10* btdc I had like only .045 clearance and it should be at least .080 if I remember correctly. We just notched my friends pistons and he's running a Comp 242/248 .610/.615 112 with AFR heads milled .035. We put the degree wheel on to check clearance and the valve hit the piston. I contend that a lot of guys are running around with a lot tighter P/V clearance than they realize, and are only an overrev or valve float from contact.

I agree also, I had a few more knowlegable people tell me my combo would fit "no problem", luckily I checked it anyway just for my own piece of mind and was surprised when I couldn't turn the motor over, I actually had about .012 interferance at 8* Just for the record, I checked a friends set-up and with AFR's milled .035 (also with a F13), he had about .075 clearance.
