Well with the emergence of all various lifters and added wisdom, the right way to do it is to actualy measure.
I got pretty good at measuring parts etc.. because I lived overseas and needed to order p-rods at same time with cam. So to me it seemed easy and made sense, but not always accurate as more parameters changed.
Bottom line, using a pushrod meter and measuring is far superior.

While having a discussion recently, I measured a stock 01 cam and a comp 222/222. My measurements were 1.53" on the stocker and 1.48" of the comp. Thats a difference of .050. Divide that by 2 bc the PR only rides on one side at a time, and its a difference of .025. Stock pushrod length is 7.400. Add your .025 for the smaller cam and you have a 7.425 PR length.
