Default Pull engine w/o lift?

Hey guys, I am about to embark on a major project. I intend on dropping a ZL-402 LS in my 98 Z28 M6. I am giving myself alot of time for this project but I would like to complete it quickly. I want to do it myself but I don't have a lift. Has anyone figured out a creative way of getting the engine out w/o a lift. I am open to anything REALISTIC. Please do not suggest a forklift or something ridiculous. I have a large car port with a very high ceiling (15+ft). The problem is that the floor is gravel. I don't want to go thru the expense of pouring a slab and buying a lift. I did see some low cost scissor lifts but I am not sure if they would get in the way of the actual engine pull.

Help!!!

Something like this only shorter, and with larger wheels/tires...

Lift? or... Cherry picker?

Don't need a lift, but you do need a cherry picker.

Your best bet would be to get a cherry picker and throw some plywood down and pull it through the top. If you pull out the radiator, ac condensor, take off the intake, and unbolt the trans you will be able to pull it through the top. You have take the hood off also. When putting the new motor in it helps to have an extra hand to help.

Try plywood, But without doing it on concrete able to move the engine when you have to is not going to be easy. What about the overhead area, can you use a chain hoist?

I did an LS2 402 with a few friends & it took 3 days.

Haha, when I was in highschool on a low budget pulling a motor outside a friend and I built something like that out of PT 2x4's, a 1000lb pulley, a cable and some chains... We looked like idiots, but we got it out and handing by the 2x4 contraption... then just rolled the car out from underneath and backed a pick up under it... It's amazing the things you will do when your young and stupid, we had almost no $$$, way way too much time on our hands and a stack of PT 2x4's and lag bolts taken from my dads shop....lol

Wow. I thought that you had to come out of the bottom. Also, what is the car pictured? Doesn't look like an f-body. My engine is under the dash.

Ummmm get it high enough it drops out the bottom with ease ..... 1 hour and 8 minutes. After you do a few. Ramps .....build ramps out of 2x4's or whatever wood you want and make it slope a good deal at first and then make it high like steps makes it easy......_

- my bad I meant 2x12's Anyways build a ramp witha stepped design and you can get your low sitting z up in the air high and you can always make it higher Good Luck!

Boy, I bet the neighbors liked that. The homeowners associations out here in Florida would have your *** for that. Fortunately, I live in the sticks where the rednecks keep old cars in their front yards as if they were lawn nomes .
