Default Bad Luck x 1000000000

Well for those of you that helped me out in my "no compression" post, here is an update:

Well last night we pulled the motor. With the plan on pulling the pistons today and re-ringing it, putting it all back together and being done with it. Well my bad luck turned worse today. Upon taking the windage tray off, we discovered that the rod bolts were only finger tight, and none of the pistons were in the right cylender holes (except #2). So we started taking the rod bolts out, and one of the pistons FELL OUT!!!! IT FELL OUT, IT FELL THE **** OUT!!!!! Only to discover that there was not one ring on the pistons!!!!! Then upon further inspection (after removing the cam) the cam bearings are screwed, and the crank may need to be turned, and the crank bearings are gone. So what it looks like is someone took the motor apart, and took the rings out, and just slapped it all back together, litteraly.....so depending on what happens Monday with the machine shop, and if my crank has to be turned, depends on what size crank bearings I need. So basicly I wasted $750.00 on a paper weight. Now you all know why its taken me so long to tear this thing down....one step forward and four steps back, its just so damn frustrating.....and I wish I had the money right now to forge the bottom end, since I am there, but no such luck.

Document everything and have the write ups and pictures notarized. Almost every single state has both statutes and case law that deal with implicit warranties. By holding himself or his shop as a "professional", there was an implicit promise that work would be done in a "workmanlike fashion."

BTW - I am NOT an attorney.. Consult with a REAL attorney for proper legal advice.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it. I bought the motor from a guy in LA, really nice guy. He didnt know what happened to it before I bought it. He was going to use it for some project, and he was generous enough to let me buy it from him, knowing the time crunch that I was in, and all the problems I had with my old motor. So in part, its my fault for not going through the motor before I put it in the car. But I had 2 days to get it in the car and running before I left cali......just goes to show that rushing a project isnt worth it....

Clearly, someone lied to somebody somewhere along the way..

Anyway, good luck getting it back together.. I guess you could say you were lucky that you didn't have compression, otherwise this thing would have come apart and f'ed up whatever you had left, i.e. block, pistons, valve train, heads.
