LS6 Heads vs LS1 Heads

LS6 Heads vs LS1 Heads
Can someone tell me what the gains would be going from stock LS1 heads to stock LS6 heads? My car is a 2000 C5 with an A4 tranny. My mods are LS6 intake, blackwing, Longtubes and a comp cam 218/224 on a 114. Car was tuned by More Performance and came in at 356 HP & 350 TQ. Just curious if it is worth the cost and labor. Thanks in advance!

That's kind of what I thought, but wanted to hear from those that have gone before me. I don't really want to go with a huge CC runner, so I guess I'll save my money for some AFR 205's! Any other suggestions appreciated.

yeah i dont what you guys are talkin about but ported ls6 heads will outperform ported ls1 heads any day. They have a better designed combustion chamber and redesigned intake runners.

What I'm trying to say is if I don't go with a stock ls6 head, I don't want to go much larger on the port size. There are alot of heads on the market that have great flow #'s at the expense of low end torque. So if the gains from a stock LS6 head are not worth the cost and effort, then I think I'll hold off and save for some AFR 205's. Hope that clears up what I'm trying to say. I am still very open to other ideas.

i recently went from stock 853 castings (98/98 heads) the some stock LS6 heads. it was a nice gain ALL THE WAY through through RPM's. i noticed a huge jump in mid range as soon as i drove it. thrugh my crappy exaust set up i went from 363 hp to 388. i never got it dynoed with the cut-outs open before. but with open cut-outs and LS6 heads i made 415hp 411tq. i got them dirt cheap on Ebay and i'm very pleased.
for as cheap as stock heads are i'd say go for it.

yea well the truck 6.0 heads have larger combustion chambers that lowers your cr. you would have to get them welded and then milled to get them to the same cr. unless you are talking about Ls2 heads then you are not going to be able to get those for $200. they are the same casting as the LS6 just without the sodium filled valves.

A well ported ls1 head will outflow a NON-PORTED ls6 head. A ported ls6 head WILL outlfow a ported ls1 head by a good margin. Ls6 heads are worth the money, but if you aren't going to port them, then it is pointless. You can get your heads ported for less than a set of ls6 castings and make more power. Not a whole lot but more.

Hey thanks for the replies. I can get a new set of LS6 (243 castings) heads complete for around $750. Just trying to decide if I should jump on them or spend approximately twice that for a ported set of heads. Just questioning the horsepower to dollar ratio if ya know what I mean!

just to give you an idea of what can be done with ls6 heads.I picked up a set of brand new ls6 heads complete with springs and valves for 500 bucks.Thats as cheap as they will get too.I then sent them to Bo White for porting. They now flow right at 300. cfm at .600 valve lift and thats with stock 2.00 valves and on a 3.900 fixture. They are only 229 cc on the intake which will still maintain good air speed and torque. On a 346 anything over probably 240 and it will hurt your initial hit of torque.I spent a total of 1250 bucks including shipping and packaging etc.In my opinion it was worth doing, they will performe extremely well for the money and they are true castings.unless you can get ls6 heads for less then 700 bucks then its not worth doing.for the price you can get some cncd heads.Unfortunatly Bo doesnt port anymore either,so you would have to find someone who does that kinda work and hope they know there stuff.300 cfm from a hand ported head with stock valves is pretty damn good.
