Default Ordering new cam and accessories...few ?'s

Alright so after much reading, and comparing, I have decided on the following for my street car/daily driver:

Thunder Racing Custom "Reverse Split" Camshaft - 230/224 .575/.563 111 LSA (however i'll see if I can order the cam on a 112 LSA instead)

As far as the whole package goes...

-Keeping my rockers
-New OEM lifters
-Chromeoly Stock Length Pushrods
-New Timing Chain (which one?)
-Titanium Retainers - really needed?
-Springs, probably Comp 918s unless there is a better suggestion
-Head Gaskets, since the heads need to come off to replace the lifters, so which? I was told TR Coppers is what I should use
-Seals, Locks?
-Cam Gaskets?

Engine has 75k miles. Also saw a QTP Cam Cover and Oil Pump on the TR site...necessary?

Just trying to make sure i'm not overlooking anything...thanks in advance for letting me know what I need & don't need.

for gaskets just get a whole kit i'm sure that tr sells a kit with new head gaksets, exhaust, water pump, timming cover, front cover seal, head bolts, and oil pump oring. things i use and suggest are the ls2 timming chain, tsp ported ls6 pump, and comp oe lifters. 918's should work just fine!!

I highly recommend getting the patriot "gold" spring kit. For 255 bucks you get the gold dual springs good to .650, bases, titanium retainers, super 7 locks, and seals

But the thing is I don't need strong dual springs...we are only talking about .575" lift here. Unless there is some advantage to them i'm missing?

Although that is a damn good price for the whole kit. I've seen the retainers cost almost that much alone...

And LS2 timing chain is better than the Comp and JWIS, Crane, etc?

the reason for dual springs is to cover your *** if one breaks you still have the inner spring there holding the valve up. the ls2 chain is a nice piece, all you need is the chain no sprockets or gears. if gm designed it for there 400hp ls2 it will be alright for your 400hp ls1.

Well i'll be looking at more power than that...

But anyway I understand about the dual spring, however I wonder is it harder on the lifters? Will the valvetrain be noisier?

I have had both 918's and crane duals. The valvetrain is not any louder with the dual springs. You should be able to get the complete gasket set as a package from thunder or any of the other sponsors. I would go with dual springs and titanium retainers just for peace of mind. They aren't that much more expensive. The ls2 timing chain is also nice.

I really dont think there is a need for new lifter unless your are damaged. Take them out if you want and check them. There not a part the generally wears out. They usually break, but if you want for safe mind change them.

The patriot dual spring setup is a great deal and insurance. We use them alomst all the time. Net to mention they come with everything. Spring, tit retainers, seals, locks, seats.

As for gaskets..if your carful taking it apart you can reuse all the gaskets if your on a tight budget...if not it dosent hurt to replace them.

Head gaskets...the GM MLS work great for a decent price.

Timing chain cover is not neccessary unless you plan on changing your cam every summer. As for the chain the stock ls2 is great or a hardened rollmaster. I would put a ls6 pump on for some good thought too.

Anothet vote for trying your stock lifters. If you changed the oil regularly and show
no excessive wear on the cam when you pull it i would leave the stockers on a street car. And i would opt for 'DUAL' springs for the reasons given. Dual R.E.V.s here and T.I.
retainers and i can spin up just don't want to.

Thanks for the info. I'll give TR a call in the morning.

I guess I could check out the lifters before putting in a new set but wouldn't they have to still be pulled? May as well then after going through all the trouble...

No, you dont need to pull the lifters to put a cam in. Just make sure you listen for all of them to click up. The cam will turn very easy and fast with no lifters sitting on it. Then pull it out ans slide her in as fast and as carful as you can. Have fun...always a learning experince working on your own car, but thats how you learn.
