Grand Am Cup Cam vs. T-Rex Killer
Hey guys, just looking ahead a bit and wanting to get one of these two cams. I know that the Killer is a custom cam and only Joe knows the specs on it but I talked to him and he said that the cam was nastier than the T-Rex and lift was kept down, I figure for flycutting issues and to help the springs last longer or to keep from buying much stronger springs. I figured that both of these cams are close in the sense of power and powerband so just wanting to get your opinions on these. I will also be getting me a larger stall when I do the swap.

If you want an all out drag cam, the grand am cam is probably not for you, it's better suited on a road course. As far as the so called "T rex Killer" give me a fuggin break. Any of the fastest cam only cars running this cam? Perhaps a marketing scheme? If you want an all out drag cam I'd go with something proven, which the t rex killer, IMO, is far from.

the ga cup cam is on very lazy lobes and would be a mfer to tune. the t-rex killer "requires" comp r lifters, as i assume it would collapse the factory ones due to its mad ramp rates, and i'm sure would also be a mfer to tune. to take advantage of either one of those cams you would need steep gears and at least a 4400 stall, along with slicks and susp. work.

Some are setup properly and some are not, it is a crap shoot with these lifters. There are better alternatives out there such as morel and lunati (virtually identical according to most here). For what it's worth the lsk lobe is working with stock lifters and is possibly and quite probably more agressive then what the T-Rex killer uses. But then again we'll never know, it is top secret, ha ha.

Sorry guys, I thought I posted my internal setup but I forgot so here it is,
Patriot Stage 2 CNC Ported Heads
5/8 Double Coil Springs
Titanium Locks and Retainers
Comp Cams Chromoly Pushrods
Comp R Lifters
I'm currently running a TR224 cam. Yea, I'd also be getting me atleast a 4000 stall to go with it and supension mods. I'm currently running 3.42's and I wasn't for sure how they would do with one of these cams with a large stall. If I need to I'll also get some 3.73's. I also have full intake and exhaust upgrades so it can breath just fine. I've heard many times, people trying to talk me out of these cams. If I would take one of these cams to the street, every once in a while, how would it act in town driving?

The T-Rex is a cam only cam designed for factory heads, my guess would be the killer is the same, so niether of these cams should be on the list. You need a cam made for heads. Keep on searching and give up on these two. Not to mention your heads might not clear either of these.

I bet it would clear if he doesnt have any kind of mill. As far as a DD. I would not hesitate to run either one of these cams. If you have a tune then you should not have any idle searching issues, and gearing and stalled correctly, that takes care of the bucking portion.

I am number 3 on the cam only list and yes this is my camshaft he is referring to. As for the spec's, I am the only one that knows and I am not one to give out my specs. I made 463rwhp on the chassis dyno last month thru slicks. I also ran a 10.30 @ 130mph last month and that made me #3 on the CAM only list. This camshaft was not intended for daily driving and I can assure you is not a marketing scheme. I am thinking about going bigger since I have yet to valve notch my pistons. My camshaft has been proven to last, run with the trex and yes I can still drive it on the street if I wanted to. As for going with this camshaft and having heads, I agree this cam might not be for you. There are plenty of guys out there with Heads and Cam that should be able to point you in the right direction. My cam is proven on CAM only and has not been tested with Cylinder Heads.
Thanks,
Joe
