Default Bad Luck With Futral Cam

Well my dad and I ordered 2 FM14 cams from Futral 8 weeks ago and they just arrived. After unwrapping the cams we noticed that one of the cams has severe pitting on a couple of the journals. The pitting is pretty bad and the cam is not usable. I just don't understand how something that obvious can be shipped out the door.

I'm not trying to tear into Futral because I know a lot of people have had good luck with their cams, I just don't understand why it took 8 weeks to get the cams when they told us it would only take 14 days. I also don't know how Futral could let a cam out the door with such severe pitting.

I plan on calling Futral tomorrow to see what's going on and why this happened. I'm sending the damaged cam back, but I don't want to wait another 8 weeks to get a new one. After all, my dad and I have had both our cars sitting in pieces for the past 8 weeks due to the cams taking forever to get here.

I was just going to order one of their cams too. What ever happened to quality control?

I would call that freak luck. I can assure you that Allen did not see that prior to shipping. They will make it right.

That sucks, but there are rare circumstances such as this that we experience on occasion. It's just part of the high performance world. I hate that it happened, but it will be made right.

Good luck!

I would not worry about that. I had Allan do my install back on the 12th. Everything came out great and the car is an absolute beast now. Eventually I will be back for Heads and a Fast intake if I get more money.

I know I had to wait for my cam to come in since Cam Motion was behind on grinding the Futral cams.

I'm sure they will fix the problem. However, the issue is the long delivery time (2 weeks promised vs, 8 weeks actual) and the extended time for the replacement (2-8 weeks).

Now they probably sent the cam from their cam vendor without opening the package. So this is likely a problem with their supplier. So, while not blameless, they may very well be an aggrieved party also.

I ended up having to wait an extra week for them cam from when it was originally due in. Allan made that up though he had my car done the same day I dropped it off. Cam install, pulley, ported TB and tuned, unfortunally I had to wait till the next day to get it since I could not get off from work to pick it up.

My Futral cam was at my door in exactly two weeks. I agree that Allan did not know the condition of the cam when it was shipped. I do not see him doing that.

My F-11 arrived yesterday. Ordered it 12/08/05. Saw this thread and took a close look at mine to see if it had any pitting. Sure enough it does. Not nearly as much as the original poster but it does have some in one spot on one journal. Take a look at the attached picture. Is that too much pitting to use it? I guess any pitting on a new cam is too much.

Do they post on here? I would like to see an explanation since I currently have a cam on order along with springs and pushrods.... I have never seen a post like this regarding thunder or texas speed.... This makes me want to cancel my order.

Is there any way you can take a closer picture? Does your camera have a macro zoom function??? I would not use that cam... but others may have a better opinion/experience.

Looks like some bad cam cores, like they were ground out of a core that wasnt big enough and the pitting is actually a bit of the original casting, but I cant say that for certain. Is cam motion still grinding cams for futral? I remember the tooling path marks being very different on my f13 cam when i bought it last year.

I ordered my F13 cam + AFR heads in late June from Futral motorsports. They arrived separately, late October. Yes that's 4 months !!!!!!!!

I was advised 3 weeks and had track time planned before the winter at Snetterton and a 2 day trip to Spa in Belgium early October.

Admittedly Katrina did disturb things however it had already been 6 weeks before she hit.

4 months !!!!!!!!!! Is that acceptible ????????
All i got offered were some lousy spark plugs and then they sent the wrong ones. Still haven't received the correct ones. 6 months !!!!!!!!!

Numerous phone calls across the pond, I have given up. Very poor customer service

Great cam though !

From a very annoyed however pleased with the product
