Default Starting a new motor....

With the stock tune is probably a bad idea right?

I am not too savvy when it comes to the tuning of these and how picky the sensors are.
I have a 402ci, big cam, decent heads, FAST, 42# injectors.
Motor is ready to be cranked.
Should I wait until I can get a friend over to try to fire it???
What would happen if I tryed firing it?

Did all the work myself (with the help of friends) so far, but this part has me a touch worried.
Thanks!!

you could also try flashing the pcm with a known tune that worked on someone elses similar setup. are you going to tune it, or bring it somewhere?

I will get a basic tune on it, then have the local tuner give it a good dyno tune.

Until then though....just wait to start it until I can get a basic tune on it??

Grab a buddy and have him watch for leaks, then start it, worse case you have to shut it down ASAP
It should at least fire (it may need some throttle finessing to stay running)

I just started my 402 switch over and am also concerned about this. Some worst case scenerios would be good to hear. If we are just talking some minor idleing problems, then I am going to fire mine up when I finish.

Got any pics of your project? I took some yesterday but I haven't figured out how to post them yet.

If you are running the larger injectors and you are still on the stock tune it will be very difficult to get it running. The stock idle setting with a very aggressive cam will also create havoc. At least the injector table and idle settings need to be set first IMO. You don't want to wash the cylinders on a new motor. It's just not worth it. At least get a comparable tune installed first. The cylinder volume needs chnged as well. Thinking about now, there are too many needed tuning changes to consider starting it if you are running an actual stock tune.

I'd say DON'T do it. It's better to say I'm glad I didn't rather than I wish I hadn't

Good luck!

Did I mention HPE rocks

I buy that!

Sooooo, I am going to move on over to the tuning section and post my stuff and see if I can't find someone with something close for me. I still haven't bought tuning software so I am flexible.
