LS1 Rocker Arms - Comp. Adj ???????
Anyone using Comp adjustable rocker arms ?? What mods have to be done to run stock valve covers ? I bought spacers, but they only caused clearance problems for my engine cover [custom ],, ,I removed the sheet metal {on the PCV side of engine } from under pcv valve ,now it sits down ,, Have I created more problems ?? Any info !!!!! Thanks !!! side cover on 99 and up heads.Not hard at all with a die grinder,can also be done with a dremel.On 97 98 heads no mods needed. Hope this helps.
There are four primary sources of shaft systems:
- Jesel-Two options here. The good stuff, really Jesel's top of the line, around $1300. And a lower end series which is unfortunately not adjustable.
- T&D-A nice shaft system for around $900. Sold by AFR among others. T&D and Jesel dominate professional oval racing rocker systems and will make up just about any custom set up need (for the appropriate price).
- Crane-Crane had a needle bearing system. Forget that. Their new system uses large bearings instead of needle bearings:http://www.cranecams.com/?show=shaftMount. The only recently came out for LS1s. Unfortunately no LS7s in the forseeable future and no custom work. They also have slightly changed angles of the valve roller and pushrod seat relative to the pivot, claiming an increase in ratio below .200" valve lift. Their hasn't been a run of people saying 'Wow, look at the power increases'. Generally, if a feature makes more power all the pro series run to use it. It is about $900.
- Comp Cams-They had a rocker system, apparently out sourced from China, that got a bad reputation. They have a new system, may be out for the LS1. It is about $900. They say custom setups are available, which leads me to believe it is outsourced from T&D or Jesel. It looks a lot like the T&D system.
I find the bearing setup of the Crane's intriguing and would be very tempted to use them. T&D is a name brand for shaft rockers in professional racing and is competitively price. Jesel is offering the best rockers available for a price. Comp doesn't seem to be anything special, however they have a much bigger distribution network than T&D or Jesel, and their camshafts and camshaft support are the best.

I torque the adjuster nuts 28 lb to keep them tight. No engine covers on mine, used stainless torx head bolts for the coils.
could some of it be due to the converter? maybe. i wasn't there. i'll see what i can dig up tomorrow. i talked briefly with joe vinci. all i know is the only component change was to the 1.7 shaft mount rockers.
the gain was at 2000 rpms. i'll see if a can get them to put the two graphs together on one. that way we can see the entire picture.

advertising, showing, whatever makes you feel better. when you report anything you've done, is it showing what xxx manufacturer part can do or advertising for them? i'd say both. unless you leave their name out of the conversation.
yes, we all want to buy parts that work as advertised.
speaking of....
i spoke with roger vinci. the majority of the gain was from the converter that has a 2.4 STR. backing that multiple out, it comes to about 22 rwtq going into the torque converter. taking time to look at the graph, that's at 2000 rpms. how many graphs have you ever looked at, on an auto car, that start at 2000 rpms? most everyone out there start around 3000 rpms.
some more info on the rockers. these have only one bearing in them. the polymer matrix bearing. these ride on a layer of oil. the rockers are pressure fed. just like rod bearings for example. so, that's 512 less needle bearings to cause friction. this results in more torque due to almost zero friction and lower oil temps. plus they have made some changes in the pushrod location because of this.
right now, these rockers are still deep into the R&D phase. vinci is awaiting the 1.8 shaft mounts for further testing.
