Default Clutch after cam install???

I was just wondering if my stock clutch will hold up to the F14 that is being installed in a week....the car has 21000 miles on it, but sometimes feels a little spongy and does the old "pedal sticks to the floor" thing sometimes. Do i need to invest in a new clutch now or will she ride, because i am spending over $3000.00 between cam, springs, oil pump, pulley, gears, labor, tune, etc. and the money just isn't there for a clutch right now

I know that my wife's car did fine with her cam in there for quite a while. In fact the clutch still feels pretty good in in too. My clutch on the other hand is a completely different story, but that could also be because she can slip the clutch with wearing on it too much. Unlike me, my clutch does not like me at all. LOL

By the way her cam specs 230/232 .572/.574 111LSA

If you don't mind me asking, who is installing your cam, springs, and oil pump?

Plan on changing it out in the future, don't go nuts with burnouts and stuff. I did a cam last fall, heads in the spring. I don't want to do a clutch right away either, so I am going to baby it until I can plan for the clutch installation.

I do plan on changing it out in the future......i want a Textralia, but i was just concerned about how she will hold up in the mean time.......i don't take the car to the track, i just drive it pretty hard on occasion, so the burnouts and stuff is a non issue so i think i'll be ok.

I installed the TR224 last year and the clutch has held tight except one time I was racing a motorcycle. I jump on 1st while rolling , great. Hit second, great. hit 5th instead of 3rd, and the RPMs went up and the car didnt go any faster. That was 500 miles ago. Ive gotten on it a couple times since then and hit the gears right, but I just bought heads and plan to replace the clutch with an LS7 set up

Mine holds fine on the street. At the track it starts to slip. You can run for a while on the stock clutch

I've just about polished mine off. But it has like 92,000 miles on it.
It wasn't great before H/C, can hardly even play with the car now, its gone by the top of 2nd. LS7 going in soon.
With your low milage I bet you'd be good, especially if you plan on just driving it normally.

Yeah, just don't try to launch it hard or that clutch will be toast. I swapped to a TSP 231/237 cam a year and a half ago, and I blew up the stock clutch in short order. After going through a number of clutches and another cam (now running F13) I settled on the McLeod Twin, which has been great.

What in the hell does the clutch return spring have to do with a spongy pedal?

I'm doing heads/cam/intake in two weeks. My Spec Stage IV clutch & billet steel flywheel will be here Monday. My car has 23K on the clock, and when I removed the tranny/bellhousing/pressure plate/clutch, everything looked fine. But I figure, hey, as long as the engine/tranny are out of the car, and I'm going to be adding anywhere from 75-100 RWHP, why screw around? Might as well do it now, and be done with it....

right, i hear you but if i had the money to do it right now i would believe me, but as i said in a previous post.....the money just isn't there right now, i am spending just north of 3K for all my parts, labor, tune, etc. that's why i was wondering if my stock clutch would hold up and it seems that the concensus is that it will.......i appreciate all the input guys, thanx.

I take it the motor was not removed from the car for the upgrades. If it was I would just wait and do the clutch when I had the money. Assuming the motor was not removed, with the extra HP I would want to use it and this is diffidently going to add extra stress to the clutch. One can baby the clutch and get it to last a long time, but that's not what I purchased my car for! Guess babying the clutch is what you will have to do till new money is there for the clutch. Frankly I suspect it is not long for this world. (:
Good luck

My stock clutch lasted 2 weeks after my heads/cam install.. most of that was just easy driving back and forth to work.

Sounds like you need to change your clutch fluid. Check out Ranger's website. He has instructions on how to change it. I had the same problem but since changing the fluid and keeping it monitored it hasnt stuck to the floor since. check the reservoir and see if its black. if it is....change it
