I ran blue stripe 918s for 25,000 miles and the stripe was COMPLETELY gone when I uninstalled them. Food for thought.
hmmm that is interesting and what i wondered but man these things literally look like brand new. The pics above are of one but they all look that good. Not even oil stained/discolored. I'm really wondering if these are not even Comp springs or at least not Comp 918's. Hopefully someone knows.

Check the springs for specs, if within range of cam, go for it. They could have been used and hot tanked.

yeah after ALOT of miles the blue strip does come off. But if the guy said they only had 5k miles it should still be there. I've pulled worked on dozens of cars with blue strip 918's and they all still had the stripe.
BTW: the ones that broke did NOT have blue stripes.

Exactly. Either hes bs'd me on the mileage and the springs are garbage cause their only safe for about 25k or they are indeed not blue stripe springs at all. Either way its bogus.

The original 918's didn't break AND didn't have a blue stripe but those are now more than a few years old.

Contacted the seller and he seems willing to work out an agreement. Gonna get the cam doctored to verify and if its a TR224 then thats fine although it did arrive with rust I managed to polish it off I think it will be okay. Thanks again for the help guys I'll post up the final results when this is all solved.

How much rust? Cams are hardened, at least case hardened. Hopefully the rust didn't go deep into the hardened surface. I would call Thunder and explain to them how much rust and get their advice on it just to be sure.

Yeah good point. I'm gonna have it doctored ( measured ) to confirm its a TR224 which is the larger worry for me at this point.

The crank guy here in town ( John ) who does all the crank + camshaft grinding is a real cool stand up guy and he'll set me straight re the rust. Every engine shop around uses him for his cranks and cams. "Canadian Crankshaft and Chrome" just to throw a nod his way.

That picture is what my first set of 918's looked like. I have had a set with and without the stripe.

Seller came through and refunded on the springs and retainers. Cam is indeed a TR 224 so keeping it. Thanks you guys for all the help it is most appreciated. Now to get some fresh 918's :-)
