cam help please
ok i sifted through pages of threads but couldnt find exactly what i am looking for. my car is 2000 z28 a4. i have a lid, lt headers, true duals, built trans w/ssf3500 converter and 3.73 gears. the car is not a daily driver, but it is street driven quite often. with the cam i am going to be running 100-125hp wet shot. i am going to have the car tuned of course. i just dont know what cam would make the best performance with my combo. i have been thinking about the tsp ms3, but is it too big for my needs or would it be a good cam?

Hey smax, I cant acuratly answer that question but I can say that I have an 02 with the same mods you have and the same converter and I am leaving for Illinois in 2 weeks to get a TSP magic stick put in my car. I have been studying on that same question for about 2 months and I am just gonna go get it and a Fast intake and sub frame conectors and try it. Good luck to us huh. They say that with stock heads and about 3100 Lb race weight that 10 second 1/4 s are achievable. The best my car has run so far on motor is 11.89 so it has its work cut out for it.

TSP MS3 is pretty big.237/242, .603"/.609" Camshaft
http://www.vincihighperformance.com/...%20LS1%202.htm
my suggestion would be either the 048 or 060 cam. the 049 is the same as the 060 but with .600 lift. but, give joe and roger a call.
i'll most likely be going with the 060 in my 00 formula this year.

without the suspension and the first actually getting to run with the gears was only able to run 1/8th mile (damn wind) but it went 8.15-8.23 the slowest at around 90-92mph. before the gears and the stall it put down 321hp and 335tq with no tune and running very rich. my goal is to run low 11's high 10's with a little weight loss and a cam and nitrous and good tires of course. is the ssf3500 a good stall for the ms3?

I have almost identical mods. (check sig and link)
I restalled my converter (also a TCI SSF) from 3500 to 4000, which the cam wanted pretty badly.
I would suggest restalling the converter (was $125 plus shipping) or going a little smaller. G5X2, 233/239, TR230, FM13, etc.
If you don't have an LS6 intake, GET ONE.
Edit: BTW, I ran 12.6 with the headers, lid, duals, TCI SSF 3500 and ET streets. The MS3 plus tune dropped that to 12.2, restall to 4k plus pulley and LS6 intake netted the 11.9. Runs were done in mid summer heat.

I sure hope the ms3 helps my car. I ran it last week at the local 1/8 and it went 1.60 sixty and 7.501 at 92.456 mph. I hope to achieve lower numbers with my tune and cam. I am suposed to pick it up later tonight. I have a underdrive pulley, lid, hooker LTs, 350 turbo, PTC 3500 , moser 12 with 3.73. In an 02 with stock tune. Best 1/4 on motor 11.89 and on nitrous 10.88. So this cam and tune needs to help or I will be very upset

I don't know why you would be upset. The majority of people do not run below 12 seconds naturally aspirated on stock internals.
I do believe you will need to change more than the cam to hit 10's NA though.

I also have a similar setup having a Comp Cam 232/238 on 114 lsa. Before the cam the car ran 8.00 @ 87 1.7x 60' with just LT, drag radials, and TCI 3500 stall. The only tuning i have done so far is with the tranny, base running airflow, and idle. The car starts right up from cold and hot. Tuning with HP tuners has been a breeze so far. I am hoping she will run 7.50's this spring but to make sure i am going to install 3.73's here in a few weeks and LCA's with re-locating brackets.

ok i think i might actually go with the tsp 233/239, but it is offered in a 112, 113, 114 lsa. i would like to have a rough idle, but how would this affect performance because i am more concerned with performance. also would i have to fly cut my pistons to run this cam?

With stock heads you won't be anywhere near having issues with PTV clearance running a 233/239, no matter what LSA you get. Performance differences from different LSA's will be minimal, you say you want a rough idle so I recommend a 112.

I just got my car back and it runs great with the ms3. The stall that I have works fine. The tune I have came from the guys at TSP and they told me that it would work. I drove my car home tonight and man does it sound good through those duals. Some surges ocur but they fix themselves. My hats off to those guys at TSP. Cant really tell you how it pulls, but I stabed it once and shifted at 6000 and man it pulled hard.
