Yes they are compatible, but as stated above about wear or damage, save your money and buy the chain only. If you need added insurance then buy the LS1 timing chain dampner which bolts to the block ( your 98 block is already drilled and tapped) between the two sprockets.

I just wanted to jump in on this.....my car has 7k on it, I'm doin a heads/cam swat the end of this year....is it worth changing the timing set or even just the chain w/ this kind of mileage?

7,000 miles? If so, I would leave it alone.

From my understanding the LS1 chains tend to have a good deal of slack from the factory, w/ a higher ramp rate cam. your going to WANT to use a stronger tighter chain, no need for the sprockets or timing set but you will like the newer chain. Just a thought

The design of the dampner takes this in consideration, but in all reality the stock chain will hold for all but the wildest high revving cams out there.
