I drove it for almost a year without tuning. I had slightly enlarged the hole in the throttle blade. On cold starts it would stumble some, and I sometimes needed to use my right foot to keep the car running. When braking to a stop with headlights on, it would stumble and the headlights would dim, again sometimes requiring some throttle feathering.

All of it was manageable. I have no problems after tuning the idle (850 rpm).

reverse splits work well, my 236/230 runs hard. power comes starts really coming on at about 3500 and then at 4k the world know that you are coming.

What murdoc said will work for a while, but depending on your driving you may have problems. I say get her tuned right away. You'll not only get better gas milage out of it, but also lots more power. I believe i picked up 20 rwhp with the tune. But that was just on top. The car pulled MUCH better down low after the tune. Great cam, i made 390/380 with a leaking shitty exhaust setup, most people see 400 ish. I gotta say. After all this time and fun i had with it. I'm going bigger now.

My car ran like **** with out a tune. Wouldn't start or idle with out giving it throttle, died at every stop and ran lean. You will set misfire codes, etc. as well. IMO, wait and put the cam in when you can tune it..

I'm running this cam as well with heads, TB, MAF, LT's, pulley, T56, and 4.11s. It pulls like a ****... harder and harder the higher it goes. I'm shifting mine at about 6750 or so and pulls great in the next gear. Great street manners and the idle is great. It's kinda got an "off beat thump"... just listen to those links of that CETA, the idle is kickass! Nothing bad at all to say about it other than I really want to spray it (not sure how it will responsd, anyone?) or else keep it N/A and go with a 240*-ish cam

I agree with both of the above. To clarify, Jared stated he'd be a month without the tune, not a year like me

I ran a hotcam right from the start back in 2000, when I got the TR230 LS1 Edit had just hit the scene, so I waited. I was already used to a dim-lighted, stumbling car. The widespread ability to tune is a good thing, but hasn't always been around. Cheers!

Just out of sheer curiosity, I don't suppose anybody here might have experience with both the TR230 and the TSP 228R? Those are the two cams I'm stuck between right now. I see the TSP having more lift on both lobes (.588/.588 vs. .57x/.56x) and more exahust duration, at the cost of just a smidge intake duration, so I'd guess it's going to be a better breather up top, but then that's just a guess. Anybody want to share some insight?

To put it quite simply ... this cam KICKS ***!

I made 395/377 thru the LT's and 3" duals w/o an Underdrive pulley ... and I'm dying to get my car back on a dyno b/c w/ my new exhaust setup it doens't feel like I lost anything! It still pulls like a raped ape. Great driveability, sound at idle, and amazing power band ... and has a very good torque curve.

I drive 80 miles everyday, hwy, traffic, city, i drive it all. This is a cam i would consider, but how is the driveabilty say around 1500rpm, can you still cruise 1000rpm in traffic, and run 65mph in 6th?

Thanks much.

I've got this cam along with heads, LS6 intake, LT's, etc, along with T56/4.11's and I'll put it in just about any gear at any RPM and it pretty much drives like a normal car.

I see that you live local to me, who did you have tune it?

So you wouldnt be hesitant to drive through traffic, or long distances with that setup?

The 227/224 sounds completely stock @ idle in a stock displacement engine. The 230/224 idles like a pussycat with 374 cubic inches. Makes good torque and midrange, but falls off fast above 5800rpm. Hope this helps.
