Default What would cause....

red hot headers??

I noticed after running lightly for a couple minutes that my Kooks were starting to look red. I wasn't sure if this was normal...so I turned the car off.

Car is running quite rich....could that cause it?

Well...if it is lean I am lost.

Acting like it is WAY too rich at idle and lower RPM's.

hmm.
Do you know how lean your car is running. A lean motor tends to run a lot hotter.

The odd part is...seems to be acting like it is running rich.
When it idles I swear I am going to start crying.
Backfires at idle....not terrible, just a little popping. Tune is obviously off.
When driving...it hesitates badly under 3500. Over that is acts fine. But a local shop but a base tune on it for now.
When it hesitates...it has shot some fire out the rear.

Obviously not driving it much right now. I had just cleaned the MAF, replaced the O2's and wanted to see if it helped.

Exhaust lifter preload. If you're holding the exhaust valves open that cause backfiring and red hot headers.

Too much?

I had read that the Morels with stock rockers were a 22 ft/pound install.

What about too much spark advance down low? What is too much as well?

22 ft lb is not a preload value, it's a torque for the bolts. Did you measure your preload? Too much spark advance would not cause your problems.

I did not measure preload. I had read to install the rockers to 22 ft/pounds with the Morel lifters and they would be fine.

I do believe I may have found the problem though. Vacuum leak. Gonna fix it tomorrow.
I made a stupid mistake and forgot to replace the LS1 valley cover bolts with the ones provided from FAST. Hopefully the intake isn't cracked.....
