Default used cam?

does anyone on here have any experiance with running a used cam?i have a friend who is looking to sell me his cam a valve train set up so he can buy a more aggressive cam.it was a custom made cam for his set up but.but my set up is very similar.it only has about 6k miles on the cam and valve train.but after something has been wareing for awhile can u expect to put it in a differnt car and have it ware exactly the same why.do u think ill have any driveabilty problems.a bit confused. just was woundering if this was a good idea or is it too riskey and should go with new stuff.

How big is the cam??

The cam is fine. Just inspect it if you can. Valvetrain....depends on the size of the cam if the springs should be replaced or not.

I ran a used cam in mine for just over a year before selling it to someone local that is also having good luck with it.

it a custom ground cam from cam motion. the specs are 223/226 .579/.578 114lsa. It would also come with dual vavle springs (I think Partiot Golds), titanium retainers, double roller timing chain, chromolly hardend pushrods, and the seats.

The cam is a hyd roller right? You should have no problems running a used one. A solid roller is a different story. You would have to have the entire drivetrain to go with the solid setup.

All cars are different. period. It might be a better performer than his installed in your car. you never know.

I'm currently runnin a used cam ... no issues whatsoever. Everything else should be fine ... just check the springs everyonce and a while to make sure they're replaced when they need to be. Or for 170 bucks just throw in some 918's to be sure.

All 3 of the cams i have ran in my car (hotcam, TSP 231/237, and my Comp XER) were used, at least slightly. no problems with any of the cams due to them being hydraulic roller. they dont wear like other types of cams and as long as the lobes look good, you should be fine!!

The used cam I bought had 10,000 miles on it. You could barely tell it was used.

yeah because hyd rollers dont mate to the lifter like a solid does.
