Default LS1 Hotcam?

Okay guys I need your help…I am thinking of getting the “LS1 Hotcam” and I have some questions.
Will the car need a tune after the install of the “Hotcam”?
What kind of power would I gain from the “Hotcam” and the mods in my signature?

You will definitely need a tune. Mine would not even stay running after I installed the Hotcam. Especially with an A4. I never dynoed the car with the hotcam but I did run 11.63 at 115 mph. Hope this helps.

I have been happy with mine. I made 381 rwhp/373 rwtq on the stock tune. Mine ran ok on the stock tune, but the idle would bounce around a lot.

mine wouldnt idle worth a **** once i installed the hotcam... i got a mail order tune and she still struggles to stay alive once in awhile. it sounds good though and pulls a lot harder up top than stock... if you go with it, get a full blown dyno tune and it should be ok.

Get that surge tuned out of it! you are probably leaving some good power on the table.

I took my Hot Cam out after 20 miles. It made a ton of power but for an "Ol Skool Cruizer".........a little too rough at low RPM.

( I still have it in case some wise guy wants to get "whooped")

Thanks for the info guys. The reason I had asked this question is becuase I'm going to be getting a loan to get the converter and I will have about $800 left and wasnt sure if I should get the cam or more bolt-on's. I really want the cam but I dont think I will be able to get it tuned right away.

Thanks for your help guys

I've heard it's a nice cam to go with. I'm gonna end up doing it in my z28 after I get the exhaust and intake in. Probably gonna do a full dyno tune once I've got everything in...We'll see how well it works.

Hmmm. Strange my hotcam card reads 219/228 but it is still listed on some websites as 218/227. I wonder if they just round up on the card.

Is it possible you someone is confusing the duration specs with the LT1 hotcam? They are both ground very similar but I seem to recall the duration being off by a degree or two. I had the hotcam, once upon a time and I liked it BUT you need to get it properly tuned on a dyno, otherwise forget about it.

I think that I am seriously low on horsepower here. I have had the car tuned by two different people and do not even come close to what you guys are laying down. Hmmm. The car is a 69 camaro with an LS6, hot cam, 1 3/4 headers and 3 in. exhaust with spin tech mufflers. Can anyone have a look at this dyno and tell me if they see anything wrong right off the bat? I was thinking about changing out the hot cam to a TR224 112 but after seeing what the hot cam is capable of I think the problem lies in the tune.

Hi,

I have the LS1 hotcam along with A4, AFR205 (59cc), 6.0L intake, Edelbrock shorty headers, custom exhaust, FASTCHIP tune. The TRUCK, yes, 93 Chevy Extended Cab P/U with a 8.5" - 10 bolt, 2 piece driveshaft put down 346rwhp/365rwlbtq. Not bad if you figure a 20% drivetrain loss (which I don't think is too much to assume - in fact - I believe that's quite conservative).

Truck does lope, there is some noticeable surge, but that might be due to a poor TPS.

If your gonna do anything but stock heads, I'd opt for another cam. With my setup, I'm looking at the LG G5X2 cam - you might consider something like the G5X1, its the one I was really thinking about zeroing in on, but with the AFRs, they have springs able to handle .650 lift, and I'm told no flycutting is necessary by LG (who is going to do the work and the tune).

I think the current package I have in the truck (which has handed a SRT-4 w/mods its horns to it - beat it by about a length) is ok...especially for a 4400lb truck.
