not everyone has an extra $1,500 to spend on heads. i say why spend the extra money when you can achieve the same thing with a big cam? if all of the precautions are taken for a big cam, it shouldn't be a whole hell of a lot harder on the motor.

I ran a TR 230/224 last year and it made 390 HP with supporting bolt ons and a decent tune. On the stock heads.

I would not go with a huge cam, you will regret it. It will be over bearing and idle very choppy.

Get the rest of the bolt ons and a decent size cam and you will be pleased.

Wow! I want him to post his dyno sheet so we can see if your telling the truth or not. Seems you and this guy dont get along very well, but he hasnt been here to back up any of the info he's been talking about. Seems like there is some hatred brewing. Car to speak about what car you've got, the supporting mod's etc?

Do you want 390, or do you want 400+? This will mean the difference between a small cam to a larger cam.

With a good tune, you can get 390 out of a 224, Lt's, and an ls6 intake if youre in a stock rear.

If you want 400 to 400+, youre gonna wanna go with something in the 230+ duration range. People seem to have good luck with the FMS cams.

With the 224 setup above ..well..he has 3.73's my friend dynod 387 on a dynojet and ran a 12.6 at I believe 117 with nittos and a heavy car (subs)

You'll also need supporting mods. FTRA, a lid, etc.

Bolt ons with TSP torquer cam with stock heads makes over 400 RWHP..but your never going to get that number without a set of headers on the car..you can get to that number with a milder cam and a good set of heads too..

I'm no expert on cam selection, but I agree with Phil here. With the cheap sets of ported LS6 heads that have come out recently there is no need to spend $1500 for a decent set of heads. I'm not sure why most people seem to be obsessed with dyno numbers and trying to buy the biggest cam possible. If this is a DD or car that doesn't see the strip too often then why sacrifice all that power under the curve for an extra 10-15 at the top end?

Long tube headers, LS6 intake manifold, ported throttle body. Compe XER 226°/226° .585"/.585" 112°LSA +4° (108° ICL) should get you very close to 400 RWHP AND RWTQ with a good tune. Or get the same cam on a 110° or 111° + 4° (106° or 107° ICL) for more torque and mid range with a nasty idle. Speed Density tune is a big plus with such a tight LSA.

well, alot of people just throw in a big cam with an alright tune and get 400+, but theyre also constantly changing springs and their car doesnt idle as good as a smaller cammed car. i have a 224 cam, headers, true duals, and a lid - and im at 380 rwhp. with the remaining boltons i still need to do, i should be damn close to 400rwhp, and with a set of the new budget LS6 heads that are only like 850....i will be 420-430rwhp easy.

I made 403 rwhp, 387 rwtq, thru a steel driveshaft and a 12 bolt w/ 4.10's..probably would have been over 410 with the stock driveline in the car. Car has a very streetable cam, longtube headers, catted Y pipe, a LM, underdrive pulley, ported TB and a lid. Car is an M6 car too for reference.

If you have all the bolton's, a cam can and will make 400rwhp. Call Eastside, they have something that will retain all your driveability and make the power you are looking for.

With the addition of the heads that I now have on the car, I am expecting 430+ rwhp range, with the tq nearing the 400 mark, and those #'s are on the conservative end.
