Default Looking For 400+rwhp w/ what Cam?

I am wanting to get around 400 to 400+rwhp with a cam. I wasnt sure if heads where needed to acheive that horsepower. I want the cam to be streetable, but i also want a noticable idle difference. I love the sound of a bigger cam at idle. A shop would be installing it. I really dont uderstand the numbers of cams in terms of HP. I read the sticky already and was just needing some help. Also does the motor need to be pulled for H/C, or for just a Cam? My mods so far are LS6 Intake Manifold, Ram Air, SLP Y-Pipe, Flowmaster muffler w/B&B Catback, Hypertech Programer. Its an M6 with stock gearing, if you guys have some suggestions that would be great, i dont want to break the bank eaither.

i noticed that u dont have LT's, and to keep with a street able cam, i think that'd be pretty diffacult w/out headers....

Don't think you'll get to over 400 hp w/ just a cam, that might take a set of heads. There are cams that will get you close with a good tune. There are some other mods that you may want to look into before doing the cam. Like already mentioned LT would be a plus. Look into getting a new pulley like ASP or March that wil help things out also. H/C swap does not require taking the motor out, but does make torquing bolts down a lot easier. Last but not least get a cut-out to void out that flowmaster. All this is just my .02.

you can achieve 390+ rwhp with a multitude of cams...

g5x2 (lg motorsports)
g5x3 (lg motorsports)
g5x4 (lg motorsports)
magic stick (texas speed)
torquer 2 (texas speed)
t-rex (thunder racing, also the largest cam in the group)
Y1 (mti

in my opinion the tamest probably being the torquer 2, most radical being the t-rex.

i think the x3 on a 114 lsa would be a good compromise that provides both good power and driveability.

i would recommend long tube headers and AT LEAST 373 gears with any of the aforementioned cams. 410+ gears with the x4 and t-rex.

I've heard good stuff about the F14 making a bit over 400 with bolt ons...

That's what I'm eyeing up.

F13, F14 - both good cams that have shown 400+ w/o heads.

My Thunder Racing TR230/224 .575/.563 111 put down the #'s in my sig w/o an under drive pulley with 3" duals.

There really are a lot of cams out there that will put you at that mark. It's the kind of power you want under the curve that will point you closer to the right cam. Also if you want to run gears, or like to stick with the stock gears.

full bolt-ons are a must to get 400+, well maybe not full boltons but all the major stuff, LTs; Cat back, TB, intake, cam. You don't need heads to get there.

I got full bolt-ons minus a pulley and should be right 400 with the cam I have

Click on the links (my website) in my sig for my Firehawk. I have a comparison dyno's with cam only in my A4. The first dyno was before headers, ASP pulley and ported TB.

you look into the CheaTR cam from Thunder Racing? I think that it was actually meant to be run on stock manifolds.

do your motor some good.

Dont go with a huge cam. Settle for a little smaller cam, and a cheaper but a no issue set of heads and your motor will love you for a long time.
