Default Install Oil Pump And Timing Chain??

I'm gonna have a cam swap done and upgrade the valvetrain except for the rockers. Would it be a real good idea to change out the oil pump and timing chain? The engine only has 25K on it. I figured I will at least do the oil pump because of the better flowing pumps available. Im probably gonna go with the one from TSP. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Well, I would do the chain and not the pump, so the other way around actually. Depending on the year of your car as well. 2001-2002, Don't even worry about the pump.

But definitely look into the LS2 chain.

The car is a 2000. I had a feeling I would get mixed opinions on which to do. I'm trying to get both but I'm tight for money at the moment.

well I was only saying that the oil pump option isnt completely needed. Now if you were a 98-99 with 80k on the clock then I would say yes. But It is great insurance!
Check with SDPC they have a ported/blueprinted pump that works great!

I would do both, if cash is a problem then wait till u have enough. I've read that oil pumps prior to 98 have issues w/ them. just my .02 .

Defintely do the chain minimum. I just broke a stock chain and it wasnt fun 10+ bent valves, luckily the bottom end is fine so its just an excuse for new heads.

LS2 unless you need the adjustable double roller.

I'd do the LS6 pump also for peice of mind.

If money is an issue just get a stock LS6 pump. Porting the pump is not an abolute, but is alittle extra. The new LS replacement pumps are all the same basically saying GM knew there was a problem and addressed it in 01. If you know somebody at the dealer you can probiably get both the pump and LS2 chain for $100-$120. You could even port it out yourself. Not hard and the book LS1/LS6 performance lays it out if that is something you would want to look into doing.

I'm definatly going to get at least the LS2 chain. I see that's pretty cheap. I should be able to save up enough money for the pump. Does anyone have the GM part numbers on the LS2 chain and the LS6 oil pump?

TSP has a good deal on the LS2 chain and LS6 pump. I think a ported pump is unnecessary.

I wouldn't want either of those parts to go. No GM part numbers yet?
