Oil pressure gauge pegging
#3
Yes, 98 Vette. I removed that sender and it did not match the new one. I assumed it may be a temperature sender and the pressure sender was located somewhere else. Thanks for your help. I will go back to the parts store for the correct sender.
Any advice if the new sender does not work?

Now I am confused. I got my hands on a repair manual on DVD and it says the sensor above the oil filter is a temp sensor and the pressure sensor is on the back of the engine and you must remove the intake to get to it.
Any ideas on how to test the pressure sensor before I go to the trouble of trying to replace it?

I recently replaced my sending unit for the same reason. If you turn your ignition to the on position, but do not start the engine, and the needle pegs out then it is most likely the sending unit. Even when my car was turned off the needle was almost max. If the location is the same as on a T/A (pretty sure it is) then the sending unit is located on top of the engine back right behind the intake.

I did my sending unit in less than an hour, jank mechanic style. Get the sending unit socket, take the intake off, leave fuel lines on, disconnect the injectors, rotate it to the right, then switch the sending unit, replace bolts. Follow the torque order, and makre sure you torque them right, it's something like 84 inch pounds, not much. Take a little time, and be careful, it's not a hard project.
