The article said 2001. Did you already get to talk with him?

So you think a "very rough" surface is even better than CNC marks? Is that what ur saying? So maybe I WILL be fine Trust me, my heads are gonna be rougher than an old mans 5 o'clock shadow.

Dart331stroker spoke with him about 30 minutes ago - I had my own stuff going on, so don't even know if it was mentioned.

Malihoochie, Can you post pictures of Darts Wet Flow bench?

Here is a short description of it:

P.S. There wet flow bench is the most fantastic thing ever conceived for cylinder head R&D. I spent most of my time up there on that thing. Its the largest bench I have ever seen. When this thing fires up it sounds like a turbine engine spooling up. You think the pictures I had where mind blowing, think about actually watching the atomization plume as well as viewing and plotting the angular discharge of the mixture! Its simply mind blowing. I have asked Richard if I can take some pictures and video, he assures me that will not be a problem.

Hell yeah. Let's see some vids of a Dart head being wet flowed. If anyone is so inclined, maybe we could get a brief description of why it flows as well as it does based on what we're seeing on the video.

Is this going to be posted on LS1tech?

By the way, about your comment about the vortice...

When you were referring to your top head porters and them saying that the "very rough" surface is probably better, are they talking about hand porting or cnc marks? Combination of both? Are they basically saying a "very rough" surface from something like a 40-50 grit sandpaper is even better than CNC marks?

Thanks

Really rough - like hit with gravel rough. My own heads (old school small block) will be flowed very soon and the intakes were ported then "roughed" with a course carbide bit. A previous post on this site had some folks saying the blending on our LS1 heads looked crude or some such ... that was deliberate. Call it crazy, but ugly is fast!

Lasershop,

If you're going to get them reflowed, you might want to consider skuffing up the intakes on one head and keeping them as you have them on the other and seeing how they compare. As nice as they look now, I think u'll be holding back ur power potential with polished intake ports. I've done this w/ my heads and I *should* have results by tonight. We'll see though...

We suggest that the heads remain the way we send them out unless the person doing the finishing has knowledge of porting. We have seen cases where "just cleaning them up" has reduced the flow on a set of heads.
I wouldn't suggest smoothing the runners in your heads, our finish comes from many hours of flow testing and years of experience. If you’re not an experienced head porter with a flow bench, I would suggest you leave the heads as you bought them.

I would like to have these flowed but Im not going to change their appearance regardless of the outcome. I have way too much work involved. The numbers would be interesting being how these are an extreme case of hand finishing. Motor will have more power than I could ever possibly use as it is and the car itself will be transported by trailer from show to show. Now next year when I start to build my LS1 powered front engine dragster...... How I do things will be all business.
